Vehicle Detail

1967 Ford XL 2-Door Fastback, 428 - 4V FE Engine (Q Code), C6 Heavy Duty Transmission, Heavy Duty Suspension, Kelsey Hayes Disc Brakes, Power Steering, Air ConditioningNumbers matching fully documented factory performance vehicle (Factory Window Sticker, Deluxe Marti Report, Original Factory Build Sheet, furnished with the vehicle), #2523 in the 1967 Ford Full-Size Registry, extremely rare, one of only 1,128 built with the 428CI/C6 Heavy Duty Transmission. In the 1960's, many Ford Dealers discovered that they had the capability and knowledge to alter factory performance cars and achieve significant improvements in performance. This car was owned for awhile by Wade Ford in Atlanta Georgia one of the famous 1960's dealers who believed that if they raced on Sunday they would sell on Monday. When it was found in 2003, this car appeared to have had "dealer modifications" (see below). One dealer in particular stood above all others in creating "performance". It was Robert F. Tasca and his crew of performance engineers at Tasca Ford in Providence, RI who discovered the potential of the 428CI Engine. In the fall of 1967 he and his team added a set of performance heads, a high rise intake manifold, Holley Carburetor, and free flowing exhausts to a 428CI Engine to create the now famous 428CI "Cobra Jet".This car was stored in a barn in Georgia for more than 23 Years only a few miles from where it was built and had last been driven in 1980. The history of the car and its engine demanded that its rebuild be more than a simple restoration. The car has been reengineered and assembled as Bob Tasca would have done. The design rule that "form follows function" was strictly adhered to. Very little chrome steel was used because its heavy and weight is the enemy of performance. Non-locking low back seats have been replaced with safer locking high back seats. An automatic door locking system with warning lights, a scary thing to have on a drag strip, has been replaced with a full complement of gauges including a Vacuum Gauge to allow "old school" timing and carburetor adjustments. A removable harness bar, fire extinguisher, and shoulder harnesses have been added to increase driver and passenger safety. The weight of the car has been reduced approximately 250lbs. The factory 428CI Engine in this car has had "Period Correct" performance modifications (listed below) and delivers high horsepower without sacrificing low end torque. The hood scoop and vents are fully functional and are necessary for engine cooling on the street and performance on the drag strip. A larger more efficient custom radiator, built to look like the original, has been added to provide additional cooling. A 3.70 Rear End Ratio and Ford Racing Trac-Lok Limited Slip Differential enable quicker and stronger acceleration. Period correct Ford Performance Parts and Hot Rod Magazine Hall of Fame parts (Holley Carburetor, Edelbrock Intake Manifold, Hooker Headers, Mickey Thompson Tires, Sun Tach, and American Racing Torq-Thrust Wheels) have been used. The car is fully street-able and runs on 92 Octane Pump Gas. Higher octane fuel can be used for performance events and may require a timing & carburetor adjustment. NHRA Safety Rules and Class Requirements for National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) "Nostalgia Muscle Car" (NMC) racing have been complied with. THE CAR HAS BEEN TESTED BUT NEVER RACED.The following are the specifics:Engine: 433CI Big Block (428CI/.030 Over), Autolite High Performance Aluminum Pistons, 11:1 Compression Ratio, Rebuilt in 1979 by Ford Remanufacturer Fred Jones MFG. The changes made to the vehicle were carefully researched to assure that period correct performance engineering techniques and performance parts, preferably made in the USA, were used as much as possible. The exceptions were for those items that are required to comply with present day sanctioning body (NHRA & NMCA) safety requirements. Carburetor sizing, gear ratio selection, cylinder head and valve train modifications, rotating assembly component selection, exhaust sizing and scavenging, and all other changes to Ford Motor Company design (as built) were based upon proven engineering methods and techniques. Mathematical models and equations were employed wherever and whenever they were available. The specifications for the build and the completed car were reviewed and approved by Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Tasca.WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE CAR IS THAT IT IS BOTH A STREET CAR AND IF YOU WANT IT TO BE, A "NOSTALGIA MUSCLE CAR" THAT CAN BE RACED AT SANCTIONED EVENTS ALL ACROSS THE NATION. THE CAR HAS BEEN EXTENSIVELY TESTED BUT NEVER RACED. THE CAR IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE SAFE THAN WHEN IT WAS BUILT IN 1966. THE EXTRA SAFETY EQUIPMENT (IE. THE HARNESS BAR, RACING HARNESSES & FIRE EXTINGUISHER) IS REMOVABLE IF YOU DESIRE. THE CAR DOES HAVE "STIFF" SUSPENSION AND DRIVES, HANDLES, AND STOPS LIKE A TRUE PERFORMANCE CAR. THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR IS STYLISH AND COMFORTABLE FOR A PERFORMANCE CAR (INCLUDING HIGH BACK, RECLINING, FULLY ADJUSTABLE RACING SEATS) .
