This 1974 Saab Sonett III is in exceptional original condition. I've owned and restored four of these cars, and this is the only one that has NO RUST. Rocker panels, floor pans, battery area in trunk, all are solid. The original owner - and 85 year old guy in Delaware treated the car with anti-rust paint before it ever got a chance to be an issue. Not that it would have in Delaware. The car has not been driven in the rain or snow. It has been stored in a cool dry enclosed garage with a dust cover over it. Unlike most Sonetts you'll find for sale, this one is not some idiots idea of an "improved" Sonett. It is almost all original. Modifications are, MSS dual glass pack header/exhaust system, a Weber ICH34 carburetor, and a Retro Sound dual shaft, modern digital input radio with USB memory stick input, and a Swedish removable subwoofer (not a permanent mount, so as to preserve originality). The belt driven fan was removed when I got it, and replaced with a thermostat triggered electric fan system with a manual on override. This means you can turn on the fan before it would normally turn on itself. There are four new Vredestein 155 15 tires on the car, the original size the car was shipped with. These are particularly hard to come by, and rather expensive, but worth the effort for original condition. Spare tire, tool kit and other accessories are all in place. The seats are useable in good condition, but have some wear and could be reupholstered. The paint is original right down to the epoxy off-gassing blisters on the roof, not some cheesy repaint job. I bought this car with 52,000 miles on it over a decade ago, as my last Saab Sonett, to tool around in with my little daughter - she's big now, a young woman in college, and I have other sports cars, so it is time to say goodbye to my life long Sonett hobby. This car gets more public response than anything I've ever owned or driven, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, it's the Sonett that makes people go wild. The car has been bathed in Mobil and Valvoline Synthetic Fluids since I got it and runs very well except for two glitches in hot weather (over 85 degrees): The starter solenoid hangs up sometimes when starting in hot weather, and the carburetor does not like starting in hot weather. Other than that it runs nicely, and looks great (see photos). This is your chance to buy an excellent original Saab Sonett and maybe tool down the highway as I did, blasting Creedence Clearwater Revival - Keep on Chooglin', Chooglin', Choogellaaaeeenn! Nothing quite like it. Will sell to a good home for under $10,000 (the car is insured as valued for $14,000). Historic status means you can insure this car for less than $200 - I will recommend a firm that also allows pleasure driving and occasional driving to work, so you can make co-workers green with envy, or take that cute co-worker to lunch in it. :-) Available for test drive - no cameras, no picture taking, time wasting, automotive tourists.
