Vehicle Detail

1966 Mustang GT Ground up restoration with nothing overlooked and no expense spared. Car was built to keep, but circumstances have changed and now it must go. Nearly every mechanical piece, nut, bolt, rubber, and chrome replaced. 2,700 miles since a very thorough ground up restoration was completed in fall of 2013. Have hundreds of pictures and all receipts. Car is one of the nicest under 50K you’ll find. It turns heads everywhere it goes. The original numbers matching 289 was rebuilt and is very quick but not racecar fast. It corners like it’s on rails thanks to the Shelby front end modifications, shifts crisp, rides smooth and while it has a very nice muscle car sound from the flowmaster exhaust, the interior sounds very quiet for its vintage due to a complete Acoustashield Hush Kit. Car is a great driver and needs nothing, leaks no oil, starts right up and I would not hesitate to take it on a very long or even multiday trip. Heater blows HOT and AC blows very cold. 17x8 front; 17x9 rear American Racing thruster style wheels with Michelin pilot tires UNDERCARRIAGE: Shelby front end conversion w/ all New: ball joints, tie-rods, Pro Motor-sports Engineering negative camber wedges, control arms, bushings and bearings SSBC front and rear power disk brakes, rebuilt rear-end, New: brake lines, drive shaft, hubs, bearings, KBB shocks, coils, rear leaf springs, and Shelby traction bars. INTERIOR: All interior to include roof, walls, floor, and entire trunk interior cleaned and coated in POR15 then layered with Dynamat and Acustasheild sound proofing and Hush Kit. SEATS: all Seat frames reconditioned, new foam and covers. New: headliner, day/nite chrome rearview mirror, sunvisors, door panels, leather package tray, carpet, aircraft style lap belts, door handles, window cranks, lock knobs, door pulls, Hump Cruiser leather center console w/ drink holders and armrest. New: Sunpro knee knocker tach, matching door and ignition keys. Scott Drake Chrome handle trunk release tucked down beside the drivers seat. GT custom embroidered floor mats. The only things not done/perfect on the car: 1. The chrome around the front side and passenger windows is original. Replacements are not available aftermarket, so the only way to restore these pieces is to send them off for refinishing. Sending them out to be refinished was put off in the early stages of the resto. as money went other places. Since they don’t bother me, I just have not done them yet, and they show the wear of their 46 year age. They don’t look bad unless you’re up close and looking directly at them. 2. With the Shelby front-end modification the car corners like its on rails and drives like it has power steering (it does NOT), but with the new front-end geometry the tires rub just a bit when turning the wheel to the right extreme (like backing out of the garage). If I were to keep the car I would probably add Pro Motorsports Engineering 1” risers to the front suspension. If you carry people in the back seat regularly, one may consider stiffening the rear leaf as the rear tires can rub just a bit when encountering a large bump with weight in the rear. Both suspension issues are very minor and have presented no issues thus far. 3. During heavy rain/ hose pressure the trunk can leak slightly around the deck lid opening. The Deck lid needs some adjusting. I just haven’t had time. I don’t drive it in the rain (hate getting it dirty!) and I always wipe the trunk out anyway when I wash it, so it hasn’t been a big deal. Everything was redone, literally down to the last bolts and nuts and rubber bumpers. The car is a 9/10 inside and out. There’s just too much to list. If you have any specific questions, need more/or specific photos, or want to drive it, please call. The car is for sale locally and through several online sites so the auction may end early due to a sale. Reserve is set very reasonably and low for a car of this caliber. I fully realize that I will not get out of it what I have in it. For somebody, it will be a great deal. That being said, I have tried to represent the car as accurately an honestly as possible, it is sold as is/where is and the buyer is responsible for pick up or shipping—though I will help facilitate that to the best of my ability. If you’re serious, call before bidding with any questions. (I am happy to answer any questions, provide pictures/video, or assist in any way I can, as I know this is a big purchase. I have tried to respect your time by thoroughly and accurately representing this car, so please don’t waste my time. No trades (unless it’s a Cessna 170) Please do not contact me with offers to help me sell this car.)
