Vehicle Detail
I bought this a few years ago as a project hoping that my wife would want to ride it since she is a lover of vintage things. She liked the bike but never decided to learn to ride. It has set untouched for a couple years until a few months ago I took it out of storage, cleaned the carb and got it running. After sitting up the clutch had stuck and it smoked a little. We pulled the engine to fix the clutch and had it bored out to .25MM oversize installing new pistons and rings. It fires right up as well as runs and sounds great as can be seen in this video. http://youtu.be/kwKEruoGtzk When I first got it, the bike was taken apart and all painted parts were sanded and repainted bright white urethane. All other parts were cleaned up and polished. The tires, chain, exhaust, battery, front shock covers along with many other parts were replaced with new. All lights, horn, electric starter and charging system work as they should. The rims are in typical condition for the age and are solid but due to surface rust and pitting would need to be replaced for showing. All in all it is a nice little vintage bike that is very respectable as is but I don't want to make it sound like it is show room fresh. It's a great "driver" that would take very little to be show winning quality. I'm located in Eufaula, Alabama and potential bidders are welcome to come see it. Be sure to ask questions before bidding and I'll be glad to answer as honestly as possible. I really don't want to ship it but would consider it for an additional crating fee. I would estimate the weight at 400 pounds crated. Contact me to discuss anything related to shipping. I'm aware of scams so let's not even go there. Payment by paypal or cash in person only. Bike is sold with bill of sale only since Alabama did not require titles until the mid 70's. I do have it listed elsewhere so if I get an acceptable offer there, I will end the action early UNLESS there is a bid on it. On Mar-18-14 at 10:38:59 PDT, seller added the following information: *** Important Information - Please Read Before Bidding *** Several people contacted me concerning getting a title. Alabama does not issue titles for motor vehicles over 35 years old. The person at the probate office told me that if it is sold to a resident of a state that requires a title, all the buyer has to do is present the current Alabama registration and a bill of sale and the purchaser's state will issue a title for it. Verify this for yourself to be sure with your local registering authority. I have owned the bike since November 2011 and had not registered it since it was not being driven. I dug out the original bill of sale and found that it is described as a 1968 model instead of a 1966 model. I did my listing from memory and just recalled incorrectly As best as I can tell, there is no way to determine the year from the vin # on these older bikes but the number sequence is high enough that I believe the 1968 date. If this is an issue for a current bidder, please retract your bid. I did complete the registration process so I do have valid registrations slips for each year I have owned the bike. These along with a bill of sale should be all that is needed for title states. I have been asked about dependability, top speed and general operability for road use. It is a small bike for a big guy such as myself which is a major reason why I never bothered registering it. I did ride it around the neighborhood a bit but with a 25 mph speed limit I never even got it close to highway speeds. Maybe up to 35 or 40 in a quick burst. It's spunky with good acceleration so I have no reason to believe it is not able to run as good as a new one would. Brakes are drum front and rear so they are nothing like modern disc. The rear brakes have more grab than the front. The transmission shifts good and the clutch is smooth. As far as I can tell, the shocks are original but don't leak or make any noises. As far as dependability goes, I would expect it to be as dependable as any other carbed, points & condenser ignition, 6 volt electrical system 1960's motorcycle is. I just assumed anyone that is interested in this one has a good feel for what it is and what it is not. It is a very cool looking bike and I get waves, smiles and even a few thumbs up from my neighbors. I assume it's because of the bike and not because of my own good looks. I hope this answers all questions but if not please ask before bidding. On Mar-18-14 at 10:52:31 PDT, seller added the following information: *** More info*** I forgot to mention that I have a reprint owners manual that will go with the bike to the highest bidder. I will be out of town Thursday and will have limited opportunity to respond to questions. Please contact me as early as possible to allow time for response. On Mar-18-14 at 16:06:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Someone wrote me about the bike and mentioned that Elvis gave Ann Margaret a CA160. I had to find it and post it. She makes a good looking bike look better......On Mar-18-14 at 18:17:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Here's a quick and not so stable video showing the bike in action. http://youtu.be/SiRdHVYxjG4
