This 1982 Chevrolet Silverado 4X4 Shortbed was purchased in hopes that one day I would find the time and money to restore it to the condition of many of the nice ones I seen here on Ebay. As most of you know, life has it's ups and downs, toys come and go, and some ideas get put on the back burner for more important things, like the kids college, trips to see our new sailor in the family, etc. Here's the run down on the truck. I bought it in May 2009 from another private Chevrolet enthusiast down the street from me. He bought it from the original owner that worked at Eastman Chemical Co. (Eastman sticker still in the back window of the camper top). I needed vehicles for the 3 teens to drive to school and back. This truck became the primary transportation for my son that played high school football. That meant he could stay after school and drive home when practice was over. Most of the time he came straight home. He drove it until we decided the head gaskets needed replaced. We turned it over to the mechanic and he cleaned and resurfaced the heads, installed the new head gaskets and the beast within was unleashed. Wow, what a difference that made. Two weeks later the tranny decided it couldn't take the newfound power and it decided to leave my son stranded on the side of the road. I had it towed to transmission shop. $1,056.78 later we had a newly rebuilt and overhauled transmission. This all happened around March 2012 with 121,XXX miles on the truck. It has been driven about 4,000 miles since 3/1/12. I bought a couple other cars and trucks with better gas mileage so this truck only made trips back and forth to the high school and convenience market. The rust on the rocker panels, cab corners and wheel wells is evident from the pictures I took. There is surface rust elsewhere, but nothing that couldn't be sanded and primered out. There is a dent in the passenger door from ???. I asked my son but he swears he didn't know how it got there. I bought two straight doors from a collector for $200. I just haven't done anything with them. They come with the truck. LMC Truck has all of the parts, reasonably priced (rocker panels, cab corners, bed panels), if you didn't already know. Specifics: 4X4 works fine Motor is strong Automatic tranny shifts smooth Automatic windows need motors cleaned or replaced (slow to roll up and down) Factory air not hooked up, but still under the hood Wipers work but sometimes they get jarred and work when they shouldn't All lights work, turn signals, headlights, brake lights, park lights. Heater works great Aftermarket radio works but one speaker connection is loose. (I will try to get this working) Sliding rear window latch is broken, but window closes completely. Camper top is in good condition. Needs to be painted and sealed to look nicer. Truck bed is in really good condition due to the long time that it has been covered by the camper top Tires on the front have less than 4K miles (paid $200) and the rear tires are showing dry rot due to age. Bumpers are original and very nice. Chrome is nice here too. Spare tire under the rear of the bed is in good condition. Battery was purchased new in Jan/Feb 2013 (Warrantied with Advance Auto). Dash is not perfect but near perfect Odometer is working, Speedometer is working.
