Vehicle Detail
Hi there. Greetings from Fredericksburg Virginia. These were purchased by a friend of mine, and I am helping him with their sale. Unfortunately they are not both 'numbers matching', but we'll have more on that below. The past eight years they were sitting in the back of this gentleman's garage. Too bad they sat in a less friendly environment before that. As you can see in the pictures they are both pretty rough, but they are also, as the saying goes, "all there". They both roll OK, even though they have very crusty chains on them. The forks steer and compress freely, even though the gaiters are rotted and tubes are pitted. Though the wheel rims are rusted, the hubs are in fine shape. The parts on these bikes, that are rusted/pitted beyond salvage, are the things that one trashes during restoration. The tough/expensive parts all look good : Frames show no signs of cracking or alteration. Fork ears and lowers are all good. Seat pans are good. Lights are good. They both still have original Dunlop 'gold seal' tires on them. They both have original Lucas headlights and the electrics have not been hacked up. Transmissions move up/down thru each gear fine. Both of the engines are, at the moment, stuck. I've pulled the spark plugs out, and filled the barrels with solvent/oil. I'll be attempting to break them loose, and will report my results here. Now let's take a look at them individually: 1970 TR-6 : VIN BD40312 . This bike is the green/black one, in the pics. This bike has correct number stamping, on both headstock/engine case and clear title. The tank and fenders are all strait, and the inside of the fuel and oil tanks look good. 196? Bonneville : VIN D9825 . This one is a bit of a mystery. When my friend bought these the guy gave him a '3rd title' . Now my friend had bought them from a distance, and we learned a few things after we got them out into the light of day. The title that was 'supposedly' for this bike reads H59938 and is shown as a 1968 . The actual numbers, stamped into the frame/engine (not by the factory) read D9825. AND they match the 'now, not so mysterious' 3rd title. This title is shown as a 1961. So, since this bike is not a pre-unit, and the guy has no memory of a 3rd bike, my guess is the 68' got re-stamped as the 61' for some reason no one recalls, and I could not begin to guess. So, we'll say that this bike has clear title, matched to the "wrong" numbers. Still all completely legit though. Tag n Title would not be problem. AND The Deal includes a 'spare' 1968 title, so you could stamp those numbers into a 'project bike' and tag/title it too ! In the pic you can see that tool box and tach are missing, but we have them. The glass fuel tank is rough, but we have the stock tank, and supposedly some other spares, coming from the seller. The fenders look really good, in part from being protected, by a metal-flaky rootbeer paintjob ! We'd like to sell these as 'A pair', just to save time and additional expense. If you have questions regarding these bikes, that the pics and your own research, can't answer, then I'll be happy to help, if I can. Please don't be a PITA, peppering me with queries about shipping, etc. That stuff is all your responsibility, until you win, and THEN I'm here to help. Thanks for looking and good luck. Cheers, Brooke On Nov-29-13 at 06:06:06 PST, seller added the following information: 1st Follow-up Report: Well we soaked the sparkplugs, on both of these machines for about a week, hoping that the solvent would loosen their grip, on the cylinder heads. One came loose. The other three broke off. The good news was that we could remove the center electrode, and have a nice hole, to get solvent into the cylinders bores. We've put a new product, from Bardhal, in there, that is specifically formulated, to free-up a 'stuck' motor. They both have hot plates under them, and we are going to attempt crankshaft-rotation, on Sunday. Report to follow. On Dec-04-13 at 16:17:53 PST, seller added the following information: 2nd Follow-up: The parts 'stash' has been found. I've not seen it yet, but I will in the morning. I will post some photos here, sometime tomorrow. What we have, to 'sweeten the pot' is: 1. 2 fuel tanks. 2. 1 front fenders. 3. 1 seat. 4. 1 chain guard. 5. A mixed box/bag of cables, levers, air filters, etc. Pretty nice score, for you bidders, in it to win it. Details, and hopefully, pictures to follow. Don't know if E-bay will let me 'add' additional pictures. Cheers, Brooke On Dec-07-13 at 04:34:33 PST, seller added the following information: 3rd, but not final, Follow-Up: Well the parts 'stash' was a bit of a mixed bag (quite literally). The good news is that there is a good stock fuel tank here, so that is a nice bonus. Good stock tanks are quite pricey now. The rest of it was all pretty bad: The fender was for a Honda. The seat and chain guard were trashed. The mixed bag, was full of old and tired cables,/bent levers/dirty filters. The tank has a nice set of emblems on it too, and is for a 1970 (green with black stripe). For those of you that would be getting these bikes shipped (international or otherwise) I will be pulling the bad fiberglass tank off (that would be the metal-flakey rootbeer colored one) and putting this stock tank on. Tonight is the night, that we will attempt getting the crankshafts to rotate. So I will be posting the results of that tonight. Thanks again to all of you, for taking an interest. Cheers, Brooke
