Vehicle Detail
The Prospector is not perfect “show truck” yet...but isn't all that far away from being one. The Prospector IS a classic truck that is practical as a daily driver in SoCal: he starts easily when it's below zero and snowing in Big Bear, the A/C blows ice-cold when it's 105 in The Valley...and he has a CURRENT SMOG CERTIFICATE! This truck is a 1984 Dodge Power Ram 4x4 with a short bed. It was ordered with both the Royal Adventurer and Prospector packages. I've completed the following repairs and up-grades: * New 2-Stage Paint (Base Coat + Clear Coat) * Rebuilt Carburetor * New Catalytic Converter * New Alternator * New Exhaust Manifold * Almost New BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A Tires, 85% Tread * Trim Straightened/Polished by Astro Chrome in Van Nuys SPECS: * 5.2L (318 c.i.) V-8 * Torqueflite A727 Transmission * New Process NP271 Transfer Case * Manual ‘Lock-In-Lock-Out’ Hubs MILEAGE: ...I have no idea. I have a current CarFax, which suggests a "roll-back" in the mid-90s. (I think someone just replaced the solid-state instrument cluster, because the under-dash clips look too new to be original.) The speedometer/odometer wasn't working when I got it and I haven't yet been able to locate a new after-market cable and don’t want to use a Pic-A-Part cable. My best guess is that the Prospector has about 160,000 miles -- but your guess is as good as mine. (And you can certainly look at the CarFax.) COSMETIC: The remaining issues are mostly minor cosmetic issues, as follows: * I haven't yet replaced the headliner (the padding is still intact)(see photo). * A piece of wood-grain plastic trim on the driver's door is broken, and I haven't been able to find one yet (again, see photo). * The seat was reupholstered by the last owner -- who also created several cigarette burns. On Oct-27-13 at 15:36:17 PDT, seller added the following information: October 27 Update -- QUESTIONS/ANSWERS AND ADDITIONAL PHOTOS I have received many questions and am attempting to answer all of them in this up-date. I have also received many requests for additional photos and am attempting to address all of these requests at the same time. (I do not have my wife's talent as a photographer, so these additional photos are less artistic than hers.) I have also added a photograph of the Prospector's new custom radiator, which I did not mention in my original description. (The truck's previous owner fabricates radiators for dragsters, hot rods, pre-runners, etc. and made one for the Prospector before selling it to me.) QUESTIONS/ANSWERS Q: Will I pick you up at the airport if you buy the truck? A: Yes...but not at La Guardia. I can pick up the winning bidder if he or she flies into LAX, Burbank, Van Nuys or John Wayne (Orange County). Q: Am I willing to deliver the truck to a port for shipping? A: Yes...but not to SeaTac. I will deliver the truck to either the Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro) or Long Beach, but I will not 'hand over' the truck before receiving the full purchase amount. Q: Will I accept wire transfers or cashier's checks? A: I really don't want to, because I learned through painful experience that it is now sometimes possible to 'fake' both payment methods in a manner that doesn't become apparent for 3-5 business days. So...I don't want to, but it really depends. Q: Am I willing to deliver the truck? A: Yes, but not to Toledo, Ohio. I'm willing to deliver the truck (by driving it to you) to any place I have another reason to go...so ask me. PHOTOS I've been asked for photos of the undercarriage, but haven't figured out a good way to take them. I'm going to see if I can talk a friend of mine into putting it up on his hoist tomorrow and, if I succeed, I'll post additional photos then. On Oct-28-13 at 09:38:36 PDT, seller added the following information: October 28 Update -- BROKEN TRIM, "BUY IT NOW" PRICE Okay, so 2 things: 1. BROKEN TRIM. I finally located the missing piece of trim for the driver's side door. I won't have it by the time the auction ends (the seller only agreed to mail it to me using regular mail), but I will be able to send it to the winning buyer. (I also bought a spare grille and several sets of headlight nacelles, which I can sell to the winning buyer, or to one of the "Watchers" who are keeping track of this truck because they have one of their own.) 2. "BUY IT NOW" PRICE. Further to several requests, I have added a "Buy It Now" price. (My Reserve Price is, of course, somewhat less.) Thanks for all the interest in the Prospector!
