Vehicle Detail

1963 JAGUAR E-TYPE COUPE / XKE COUPE Hello; I have decided to sell my RED 1963 Jaguar XKE Coupe (NOT A 2+2 COUPE). VIN# 886763 I purchased this car about a year ago from a man named Benedict from State College Pennsylvania. Ben had owned the car since 1984. Sometime in 1985 he tore the car apart and decided to restore it. He had new floors and sills welded into the car, added a new “picture frame” front engine support and installed a new bonnet. He also owned a 1965 Jaguar 3.8 S sedan with a newly rebuilt engine which he swapped with the E-Type’s tired 3.8 engine. So, this E-Type has a 3.8 engine block (numbered 7B59964) from a 3.8S sedan and the cylinder head from a 9-1 compression XKE (head # is 8688-9). SO THIS CANNOT BE CONSIDERED A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR because it does not have its original engine installed. The car does have its original Moss box 4 speed non synchromesh 1st gear transmission. Ben also liked the burl wood oak dash in his S Type sedan so he incorporated it into this E-Type- so it does not have the original metal dash and consol cover- it has a very nice looking and well done wooden dash board surround. When Ben restored the car he had the speedometer rebuilt and had it turned back to zero. When I bought this car it only had 785 miles on the odometer: Ben had only driven the car 785 miles since 1985. THAT’S 785 MILES IN 28 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP! Ben also renewed all the rubber front suspension bushings and replaced the radius arm bushings and clutch. One of the attached photos (the one with five photos on the one picture) was taken by Ben during his restoration. Its shows how he painstakingly took the time to clean and restore each part including the rear end and radio consol. I bought the car because it is an early E-Type with virtually no rust in the floors, sills or bonnet! After I brought the car home, I found it had many problems from sitting so long. It needed a new fuel pump, the gas tank flushed, all rubber hoses were leaking, tires were dry rotted, chrome wheels were in poor shape and I found that the car had very low oil pressure after I got it running. Since buying the car, I have: Had professionally installed by well known Pittsburgh Jaguar Specialist Boffo Motors a new oil pump, all new crank shaft bearings, connecting rod bearings, new cam shaft bearings, new valve cover gasket and washers, restore emergency brake to working status, buff the aluminum valve covers, plug off all oil leaks (new valve cover gaskets and many other new engine gaskets), install new Brad Penn high zinc oil and new oil filter, install a new tach generator, change rear end fluid, change fan belt, new otter switch in cooling system, balanced all three carbs and tuned engine, buffed the entire car paint. I HAVE ALL RECEIPTS FOR THIS WORK. I have also: Installed a new steel gas line under car Installed new rear chrome exhaust pipes Installed new front motif chrome bar and growler emblem Installed 4 new chrome wheel spinners Installed and balanced 5 new painted Dayton wire wheels Installed 5 new Vredestein radial tires Installed 6 new shock absorbers- front and rear shocks Installed 4 new springs on the rear shocks which raised the rear of the car a bit Changed all fluids (engine, transmission, rear end, clutch, radiator, brake fluids) Installed two new Volvo 4 pot calipers on the front wheels for better braking Installed two new Jaguar series 2 rotors on the front wheels Installed all new stainless brake flex hoses Installed new fuel sending unit and gas gauge Installed all new radiator hoses Had radiator flushed professionally Installed new radiator overflow tank Installed all new vacuum lines for brake system Installed new fluid bottles, hoses and sending units Installed new fluid bottle heat shield Installed new Clutch slave cylinder and flex hose Installed new in tank fuel pump and filters Installed new Pertronics ignition, new spark plugs, plug wires, new distributor cap New Lucas sport coil Installed new battery and battery shut off switch New oil relief valve and new oil pressure sending unit Installed new hard line oil pressure gauge below dash Had heavy duty generator rebuilt Installed new voltage regulator Installed new rear AMCO bar between rear bumper guards Installed a newer rear luggage divider panel Installed new map light bulb holder so map light come on when door is opened Installed 3 new wiper blades Installed a locking gas cap Installed a fuel pressure gauge under the bonnet New air filter I have done many other repairs which I am sure I have forgotten to mention Now that I have all the “bugs” worked out, the car rides very well, runs very nicely, brakes much better and has been very reliable over the approximately 1200 miles I have put on the car. We took the car on a trip to Watkins Glen NY for the September vintage races. The car rides VERY SMOOTHLY and has no shimmy or shake in the steering or braking. I am selling the car because another car that I want has become available. As you can see by the photos, this is a very nice looking, non rusty early E-Type coupe. The car runs very well with wonderful oil pressure (heated up to 90 C , no lower than 50 PSI oil pressure) due to the new bearings and oil pump. All of the gauges and lights work with the exception of the rear luggage area dome light which seems to have a mind of its own. The doors lock and unlock as they should. The bonnet and door gaps are very acceptable. The rubber door, bonnet and rear hatch gaskets have been replaced. The rear radius arm donuts are in great shape with no rust in the floor connections as the floors were replaced. The exhaust is in nice condition but is not stainless steel. The black interior is in really nice condition and the seats are the original egg shaped bucket seats and the leather is in good shape. The dash has no cracks in the vinyl covering and all the glass is in very good condition. The head liner is in nice condition and does not hang down. The paint is not perfect but is very presentable- it has a few cracks- but the red paint shines and buffs up very nicely. The red paint under the bonnet is shiny and presentable. The paint under the dash/fuse panel is red. I have one set of keys for the car. The car comes with its original jack, jack bag and jacking tools. If, and only if, you buy at the “buy it now” price, I will include a series 1 genuine tool kit / tool roll that I sourced after I bought the car. This car is ready to drive and enjoy. The prices on these early XKE’s are appreciating quickly. I am a 30 year member of the Jaguar Clubs of North America, a certified Concours judge for JCNA, and a 2 time past president of our local Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh. I have 100% positive feedback on E-bay. This is my personal car and I have worked on the car and bought the best available Jaguar parts to make this car a reliable driver. The car is registered in PA. as an antique car. If you want the original steering wheel instead of the replacement 14" wheel that is shown in the photos, I can install the original steering wheel back into the car as it is in very nice condition- just let me know which one you want on the car when you get it. Please call me with any questions or concerns about the car: Dan Meyers 412-680-1639. I will be happy to address any concerns. I have many more photos I can share if you provide an e-mail address. I will provide the name and phone number of the former owner, Ben, to the successful bidder / new owner of this car and provide copies of receipts and former owners titles that I have. The car must be fully paid for before it leaves my garage. I have a clear title to the car. I will work with the new owner concerning transporting the car, BUT I WILL NOT PAY FOR TRANSPORT OR ANY FEES OR CHARGES ASSOCIATED WITH TRANSPORTATION OF THIS CAR OR CHANGE OF TITLE OR EXPORTATION FEES TO ANOTHER COUNTRY. A NON REFUNDABLE DOWN PAYMENT OF $500 IS REQUIRED THROUGH PAY-PAL AND BALANCE OWNED VIA WIRE TRANSFER OR CERTIFIED CHECK PRIOR TO PICK UP OF CAR SO THAT CHECK CLEARS MY BANK. Car must be fully paid for within two weeks of purchase. Thank you very much for considering the purchase of this Jaguar XKE. Dan On Oct-01-13 at 21:29:19 PDT, seller added the following information: I had a few questions about the electrical ground system in the car. The car has been switched over to a negative ground system. I installed a sign near the battery so no one would get confused. The Volvo calipers are very much like the series 2 Jaguar XKE calipers. According to my engineer friend David, these calipers and rotors give the car 90% more "swept area" than the standard early XKE front brake calipers. I found this set-up described on the JCNA website and it does not get deductions at a Concours. On Oct-03-13 at 07:27:57 PDT, seller added the following information: YES; the radio works great with 4 speakers (two behind the seats and two at the consol). YES; all the front rubber suspension is in perfect condition as are the steering ball joints and steering rack. This car tracks straight down the road- no shimmy or shake, no pulling when braking either. A very comfortable road car as we just drove it about 1000 miles to Watkins Glen NY and back. YES; the front engine support frames are in wonderful rust free condition. The front "picture frame" has never been jacked up on like most have been. This picture frame has no bending marks or rusty marks from some dummy jacking up the car in the wrong place. ALSO; the floors have never been jacked up on- meaning that most of these E-Types have jacking marks on the front floors- this car does not- as the floors were replaced back in 1985 with only about 2200 miles on the car since then.
