This is a nice, unmolested, never-abused, 10,000 mile original, first year Katana. I have owned four of these since I bought my first one new in '82. This is by far the nicest used one I've ever seen; that's why I bought it. There were only 1002 of these built, in order to homologate it for AMA Superbike racing in '82, but they were never raced as it turned out. Only 600 were brought into the States; I would estimate that only a dozen or so remain in this condition and with this low mileage, although there are a few that were uncrated and never ridden at all. As you might expect, this one starts, runs, and rides like a new bike. It is 100% reliable and starts on the button whether cold or hot. It pulls like a freight train right up to the redline. I've only used it for occasional commutes on sunny days, and it has been indoors, on display in our lobby, every winter since I acquired it in 2007. The photo is of the actual bike; in fact it was not detailed but ridden into the studio right off the street for the photo. It's possible that this is kind of the best of both worlds--it's clean enough to show, would restore into a show winner without major work, or could be ridden as a barely-broken-in, nearly-new bike, and it would give you years of pleasure and reliable service. It's been maintained by the book, too. Recent work includes carb synch/tune up (when I first got it, 3K miles ago); in the last 300 miles it's had new Dunlop tires, fork seals, brake pads, battery, and of course yearly oil and filter changes regardless of miles ridden. I'm only selling because of a divorce; I had planned to be buried with it. I will gladly discuss pickup (ride it anywhere) or crating and shipping at your expense to anywhere on the planet.
