Vehicle Detail
1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner Convertible VIN B8KC150742 The 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner convertible was touted as “Ford’s contribution to sunshine living, and a favorite convertible everywhere.” Along with inspiration from the 1955 Mystere show car, the lower, bigger and more powerful Fairlane 500 drew on the contemporary Thunderbird’s styling features, most notably in its quad headlights, trapezoid grille, imitation hood scoop and oblong tail lights. The Sunliner proved very popular outselling the Skyliner about two to one every year of joint production. The convertible Sunliner was one of the glamour queens of its day, especially fully dressed models like the example offered here in Red & White with matching Red and White interior. V-8 with a manual 3-speed transmission provides the power, while the cleanly styled interior shows still more T-Bird influence in its dash layout and bright two-tone Red and White upholstery. Crowning touches include a white powered soft top and Red tonneau cover. This vehicle runs and drives great, however I have noticed that it smokes a little out of the passenger’s side tailpipe during the initial start and eventually stops after a few minutes. The paint is in exceptional condition considering the year of the car with very minor flaws in the paint. There are four tiny dents on the section between the convertible top and trunk lid. There is a scratch in the windshield and I would recommend replacing, however it might be able to be fixed. The vehicle will also need new buttons on the tonneau cover as seen in the photos. Overall the vehicle is in good condition and is extremely fun to drive with the manual transmission. The owner has owned this car since 1979 and it has always been garage kept. The car was used as a Sunday driver and was occasionally taken to car shows. The previous owner performed a full restoration on the vehicle pre-1979. http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1958/Ford/Fairlane-500-Sunliner/2-Door-Convertible/Values Original MSRP Low Retail Value This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning.
