Vehicle Detail
The Galaxie is a Texas car that has been driven most of its life and has never been restored. The best way I can describe the condition of the car is “original condition”. It has 46 years of wear and tear. I believe it has never been mistreated but it is showing its age. The body has no rust expect where the paint has scratched, chipped, or faded. There are small dings, dents, and signs of previous body work. The left fender and hood are not original because blue paint is showing through where yellow has chipped. The paint on the upper portion of the driver’s door does not match and there is a thin layer of filler in it. The rear quarter panel has been repaired and repainted because the layer of filler they used was too thick and crack. The paint prep on the same quarter must not have been sufficient because there are micro-paint cracks throughout the quarter. The interior is in good condition but worn. There are seam rips in the front seat and small tears in the headliner. The door panels and dash are in good condition but the chrome and/or paint is cracking and peeling. The dash and arm rest pads are cracked. The carpet is faded and dry rotted. All of the windows roll up and down but, I believe the driver’s door window regulator will need to be replaced in the near future, there is too much play in the drive gear. All of the window seals will need to be replaced, they leak in the rain.Despite the wear and tear, the Galaxie runs and drives like a dream. I teach Industrial Technology 40 miles from my home and I drive the Galaxie to work often. In April, my class and I finished rebuilding the 390 2V and we rebuilt a C6 transmission for it. It ran great before the rebuild but, most of the seals and gaskets were leaking. When we opened up the 390, I was so impressed. The cylinders were standard bore and they did not need to be bored out. The rods and mains where also standard and did not need to be turned. We completed a stock rebuilt except, I drilled out the oil galley bores around the oil filter housing to ½”, pipe taped and used pipe plugs in all of the oil galley holes, and installed a Melling high volume oil pump. The cylinder heads were in great condition. We only need to grind the valves and seats and remove some broken exhaust manifold bolts. Due to my limited budget, I could not afford may upgrades for the engine. I kept the original 2V carburetor and intake, reused the camshaft, lifters, and pushrods, and kept the stock exhaust manifolds and single exhaust. The Galaxie did not originally come with a C6, it had the MX. I was able to locate a C6 from a 68 LTD and we rebuilt the transmission but, I bought a rebuilt valve body with a stage 2 shift kit from Broader Performance. The original MX will go with the car.The braking system is in good condition. It is a power drum system. The shoes and brake hardware were replaced before I bought it. Since I have owned it, I replaced the master cylinder and the brake lines between the master cylinder and distribution block. The lines were purchased with factory bends from Inline Tube. This car floats down the road. My class and I recently replaced all of the shocks with Monroe Sensa-Tracs and I had previously replaced the rear springs and isolator bushings. I have not touched any of the front steering and suspension (except the front shocks) but everything is in good condition but wearing.Everything in the car works except for the A/C. I removed and sealed all of the A/C lines when we rebuilt the engine but I have not reinstalled them. The lines are in good condition but will need to be properly sealed. The lines will go with the car. The heat works awesome and all of the heater/defrost ducts open and close properly since I replaced some of the vacuum lines and replaced the heater control valve. This is a great car and I hope that I have described it thoroughly. Please, please, please email or call me at 319-213-1102 if you have any questions. I want to ensure whoever buys the Galaxie knows everything about it. On Sep-01-13 at 18:54:51 PDT, seller added the following information: The rust where the paint is scratched, chipped, or faded is only surface rust. There is not through rust anywhere on the car.
