Vehicle Detail
0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false What can I say, I bought it new in ’85 and it has stood the test of time. However it will not tow 20,000 pounds and that is what I needed so I bought a dodge. Relative to problems with a truck, the Toyota really outshines the Dodge which has given me no end of trouble, but it will tow 20,000 pounds! The Toyota’s odometer has not worked for years, it shows 146K, but for almost all those years it has done nothing but go back and forth to the dump with brush and to Lowes now and then, so I would imagine it has about 165K on it by now, but it is far from pristine. The engine runs good, you can not kill the 22R engine, best engine Toyota ever made. The transmission shifts good, but the shifter is a bit sloppy and has been for years I just got used to it. The interior has seen better days, it is functional, but that is about it, the seats are in great shape since I have always had covers on them. The truck is has only surface rust on the frame and other structural components nothing that should compromise its strength, but the bed and especially the tailgate have a good bit of rust. The tires have some years on them, but they still have good tread, the clutch seems to be in good shape, it has been replace a couple of times over all the years. Does not leak any oil. It does have AC, but has not been charged in years so I have no idea what it would take to get it working again. The battery is about a year old. The one thing that will have to be fixed is the muffler is shot, it will have to be replaced which it looks like you can get the part for about $75 on Ebay. Bottom line, take it home, give it the once over, replace the muffler and I bet you can drive it for another 5 years without an issue. Or take it strip it and turn it into a little low rider, it is a good solid base for such a project. It is sold as is where it is, with no warranty expresses or implied.
