She has provided me many hours, days, weeks and yes months of adventure, road trips, camping and living in the forest . She has been the most consistent member of my family for the past 22 years :-) The following are the pluses and minuses that I am aware of: She is an air cooled 1980 VW Camper. I purchased the van in 1991 with around 69K. The engine was replaced in 1993 at 90K. She only has 30K on the second engine. I have replaced or repaired around $3000 worth of items in the past 4 years, and only put 3000 miles on her. The only major engines issue I am aware of is a “push rod seal leak”, not a major repair, but you can smell the oil when you first open the heat vents. The good news being that the heat vents actually work! The windshield was replaced in 2009. The ignition switch was replaced last fall and TB starts up, runs the best she has in twenty years and is ready to go. The exterior paint was redone with the original color in 1993, however she needs another coat as rust is beginning to encroach (pics available). The original upholstery in 1991 was functional and still is, but it would be nice to replace and “restuff” (pics available). The top pops up and provides additional sleeping for two. The top is cracked and needs a fiberglass repair. The repair would be nice if you are planning on camping in a monsoon, or park under a water fall, however if you plan on summer camping and store TB under cover as I have then you don’t need to worry. The vinyl walls have two patches that I have applied and all the zippers for the window vents work. The vinyl was originally loose on the back right corner and still is (again, pics available). The bottom couch folds out and sleeps two. The stove works, the sink works on both electric and manual and the refrigerator works, but only on gas. The knobs on the original refrigerator had to be replaced. Since the frig was an obsolete item I used old gas stove knobs with modification (pics available). TB is ready to go. I just started her up and gave her a bath. She has been stored under cover every winter for the past fifteen years. She needs some elbow grease, an oil change and probably some new front tires. What she really needs is someone that can enjoy camping in a VW van and provide some TLC.
