Vehicle Detail
1972 Honda CB-750 K2. Are you looking for a CB-750 that can be ridden anywhere in the US without performance or reliability worries and look good doing it? This may be your ride! Frame number: CB750-2003825. Engine number: CB750E-2011518. Manufactured date of 11/71. The bike was purchased new from Honda dealer "Lahey Frizell Implement" in Greenfield Iowa on June 1, 1972. The original owner contacted me to restore it for him. It was in amazing condition cosmetically. It had sat for over 25 years a climate controlled environment. When I had finished the restoration, he (he says his wife) dedcided he was too old to be riding. I ended up buying the bike from him and unfortunatly due to lack of finances, must let it go. That is hard to do as the bike performs perfectly and those that know how much fun a perfect running example can be will understand. It starts instantly, idles, shifts and runs out like a new one. It pulls cleanly with authority. The engine has been completely tuned from the carbs to the valves and cam chain and timing/points. It is a quiet motor. The original owner said he only took short rides, which was probably the reason the original exhaust rotted fairly quickly (trapped condensation). He had these 4-into-2 type mufflers installed (stock head pipes). They were extremely quiet, so I "relieved" them by drilling three addition holes in the back of each one so that it has more of the original muffler sounds. I installed new fuel lines, carb to air box boots and a new petcock (original petcock was fine, but had the new petcock). New oil & filter and air filter. About the paint; let me first say that it is beautiful and brilliant. It looks somewhat washed out in the pictures and not as good as it would in person. The tank and side covers were excellent with no fade/dents/cracks/breaks). I just don't like brown - the original color was Brier Brown Metallic. I gave my painter a few options for color with new parts to scan, but could not duplicate the first two (Candy Gold/Flake Sunrise Orange). The third color was an interesting choice and is an original Honda color, just not from 1972. It is from an '09 Honda Element and is code YR539P - Sunset Orange Pearl. As you can see, it can be difficult to tell if it is a gold bike or an Orange one. I included direct sunlight pictures along with shade pictures to show the different looks this paint will give off. I've had other motorcyclists come up and say "Wow, nice Gold 750" or "Man, that's a nice Orange 750". It uses a silver pearl base like the original Candy Gold paint, but with a fine metallic flake. I kinda like having a "tween" color to make things interesting. I also had one last set of new NOS Honda lower tank trim stips I installed. This tank latch did not get replaced to the recall locking type latch. I personally like the old-school original push latches. The inside of the tank is perfect, not creamed or coated. I am disclosing very minimal micro rust specks, but you will seriously have a difficult time finding any - anywhere. No rust on the rims or other chrome. The aftermarket 4-into-2 exhaust has some rust where their headers meet the mufflers. The guage faces have been replaced with the correct K2 repro pieces. The originals had minimal crazing (fine cracks). The bike has new tires & tubes, chain (530 Heavy Duty w/8400 tensile strength) and both front and rear NOS Honda sprockets. I also put in new fiber clutch plates with new heavier/stronger than stock springs. New full carb kits, original looking seat cover and a right side switch. Also a complete front brake rebuild with new pads and new rear brake shoes. The brakes work excellently as designed. The front brake master cylinder has minimal fading on the lower section. It retains it's original paint and excellent top cap decal. New NOS clutch cable with proper grey lower adjuster cover. The original throttle cables were excellent and are freshly lubed. I also installed a rare vintage 55/60W Carello Halogen headlight. It has the stock like rounded lens instead of the newer style flat halogen lens. It also has a new "sealed" type battery (no drain hose). I installed a new set of the lower K0/K1 stock handlebars. I just don't find the '72 - '76 high bars to be comfortable - maybe if I was 6'5"+! I also hated the early grips like most everyone else did (ouch!) and installed a new set of comfortable, user friendly Honda CB-750SC Nighthawk grips (same as many other models also). The only area I did not go through was the front forks as they do not leak and work fine. All electrics and lights work perfect including the turn signal beeper and the left switch beeper cancel button. The bike has no mechanical issues - it is a turn key start-and-ride bike. The ignition switch was been changed at some point and the original owner had the aftermarket switch bracket up on the handlebar clamp bolts (wires extended). The extra length of the switch wires are stored neatly under the tank - no problem. I only received one original key. The new ignition key with a different number also works the stock seat lock and the seat lock has not been damaged or compromised. The bike retains it's original mirrors which are in excellent condition with no issues. The rear fender still has the "cone" rubber that cushions the license tag. Many of the bolts/nuts still have some of the factory yellow "torque check" verification paint on them. The complete original tool kit and owners manual are included. I did add an extra 12mm/10mm Honda combo wrench to the kit, as the stock kit does not include a 10mm wrench (the smallest included wrench is a 12mm/8mm). The manual shows signs of being wet, but no stuck or damaged pages. There are no leaks of any kind anywhere - no fuel, oil, head gasket, etc.. I will continue to do short rides on the bike, so milage may be over 7400 when sold. The buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements. I have 40+ years experience with bikes and can assist in loading or meeting your shipper if needed. Clear title, Sold As-Is with No Warranty. Thanks for looking!
