BMW 635 CSi (E24) (1978 - 1989) Description & HistoryBMW introduced the all-new 6 Series in 1977, with full production on this model starting a year later. Based on an entirely new E24 automobile platform, the 6 Series was designed to replace the previous E9 model and debuted with a 3.2L engine delivering 197 PS. Some two years later, BMW extended its model range with the introduction of a new 635CSI variant featuring a 218-PS 3.5L SOHC engine. Car's on-road performances were pretty impressive too, with a 7.4-second score at the 0-60 mph sprint and a top speed of 138 mph. This car was used as a base model for the later-developed high-performance M6 (or M 635CSI), featuring a new 286-PS DOHC 24-valve 3.5L unit, revised suspension and improved braking. It was completely stock when I purchased it from a Kentucky attorney who had done an excellent job of keeping it in superior condition. Wanting a more “aggressive” look, I purchased BMW approved lowering springs from Bavarian Auto and had them installed. Unable to find metric tires to fit on the original stock wheels, I purchased new wheels and tires, Bridgestone Potenza 275/35R18 Back, 245/40R18 Rear. (The stock wheels will be provided, if so desired.) The car rides as well, if not better with this suspension upgrade. The car is garage kept at all times. The overall condition of the body is good. The paint is original with the exception of the trunk. There was a ding that I did myself and had professionally repaired and painted. There is a small amount amount of surface rust in the front part of the rear wheel well on both sides. My son repaired to improve appearance, but to be perfect, professional attention is required. The overall condition of the interior is good as well. There is a separation at the seam on the driver’s seat, a qualified upholsterer should be able to repair. The gear shift boot could stand to be replaced as well. Two summers ago I replaced the heater core which had started to leak. The air conditioner runs/works but should be serviced. The only other known issue is a small grinding from 4th to 5th gears. It does shift without problem and runs great. The 218-PS 3.5L SOHC engine reliability performance reputation has not disappointed. I have had no issues with the engine and have been assured by many BMW specialists that this engine was one of the most reliable ever produced by BMW. The delivery of the vehicle is the responsibility of the buyer. I will gladly drive the vehicle to the Louisville or Nashville metro areas if it is helpful. Happy Bidding and Good Luck!
