HISTORY: Originally sold September 28, 1968 in Colorado. I bought it in April, 2013 from the third or fourth owner, who had owned it since February 18, 1975. It had been sitting in his front yard in Colorado Springs for 8-10 years. I had it flat bedded to my mechanic who went through every system (invoices included with sale), replaced all fluids and gaskets, installed a new Interstate battery, coil, condensor, aluminum radiator and had it running for a while. The car has excellent compression in each cylinder. The problem now is either in the twin SU carburetors and/or electrical. I believe it's something simple and someone who REALLY knows how to work on these cars could have it running again in a day. If you're the winning bidder, you're welcome to work on the car in my driveway and possibly drive it home, rather than trailer it. I'm retired, on fixed income, and don't have the money to finish the restoration. Once the mechanical issue is solved, it's just a cosmetic restoration. The body has oxidized paint, surface rust and several rust-through holes (2"-4"), but solid frame, body, floor pans and trunk. The convertible top frame is in good working order, but the top itself is shot. The seats are OK, but certainly not concours quality. The old carpet has been removed. Originally a silver car, the British Racing Green and the roll bar (not to mention the rarity) really draws attention. ENGINE: Original, numbers matching 1595cc (97.32 cubic inches) 96HP@6000rpm. Good compression all cylinders, cylinder head from a 1970. The original head (it's warped, I'm told) is included in the sale. TRANMISSION: 4 speed synchromesh. Replaced the clutch slave cylinder. Needs transmission shifter bushing - it shifts well and smoothly, but it feels too loose to me. REAR AXLE: 3.889 (I don't believe it's the optional 4.111) BRAKES: Manual disc front, drum rear. Good pads front, good shoes rear. No issues here. STEERING: Manual cam and lever. No issues here. COOLING SYSTEM: Water cooled centrifugal pump and fan. New aluminum radiator & thermostat. SUSPENSION: Independent front, semi-elliptic leaf spring rear.The front suspension has no issues, the rear leaf springs are de-arched. Included in the sale are two well arched springs from a 96,000 mile 1970. Book installation time: 1.5 hours. WHEELS and TIRES: New, 185/75R14 Mohave R/S on two mesh wheels, two original wheels. After sitting for 8-10 years, they still have flat spots that need another couple hundred miles of "spirited" driving to remove. Or one drifting session should do it. The owner I bought it from believed it had been a track car at one time and I believe it should be again. You just can't imagine what a gas this car is to drive! Restored, you could drive it daily and race it on weekends. TITLE: Clear. I still have the 1975 title, but it'll have to be turned in to DMV to get a new Colorado title. You'll get a copy of it, plus the new Colorado title. MILEAGE: The odometer is broken at 42,007. The car is being sold as True Mileage Unknown (TMU). The car is also for sale locally.
