Vehicle Detail

Relisted because of course the high bidder on the original auction two weeks ago never contacted me and never paid. What is wrong with people? Here we have my beloved 1992 VW Corrado VR6, which unfortunately I have no choice but to part with. First, let's get the facts out of the way, then I'll tell you the story. The car runs fantastically. All the power, all the handling the Corrado is famous for (as you probably know, "The VR6 model was listed as one of the "25 Cars You Must Drive Before You Die" by the British magazine, Car and 'By far the most desirable version of the Corrado' by Auto Express."). BUT, the brakes are not currently working, and the battery is dead. The car is at my local garage in a small town called Jefferson in upstate New York, where they are not VW experts by any means but are dedicated and intrepid mechanics. They investigated thoroughly and apparently the motor that controls the hydraulic brake system is not working. There is also a pump that does not turn off, draining the battery. I can get more details out of them if you wish to inquire; I simply have not had the time to thoroughly catalog what they told me. That said, I drove the car from my house to the garage and as always, it started immediately (after jumping it, of course) and the five-mile ride was, as always, awesome. So, the story: a friend of mine bought this from Florida off ebay back in 2006. He kept it for three years in Brooklyn, driving it sparingly. He had it all tuned up and fixed up at Tyrol Sport, the specialists in European performance cars located in Queens, NY. A fastidious perfectionist, he made sure they did everything to make the car top shelf. He also replaced the front grille and the taillights. Unfortunately his fastidiousness extends to throwing away every piece of paper he is handed, so he didn't keep any records. I think he had the cooling system replaced at Tyrol, if I remember correctly. Anyway, Tyrol totally fixed the car up. But after three years of parking it on the streets, and seeing it get dinged twice (as you can see in the photos) on both front sides, he got fed up and gave it to me to keep upstate. So since 2009 it has been in my garage upstate, where I drove it for the first two summers. But since I put it away for the winter in December, 2011, it has not been driven at all save to bring it to the mechanic a few months ago. Like I said, the car has all the power and handling you expect from these amazing vehicles. It is very clean inside, no rips that I am aware of, no stains. It has an Alpine stereo with iPod interface in the glove box and new speakers all around. I am not entirely certain of the exact mileage but it is around 150,000. Why don't I know this important and seemingly obvious piece of info? Because I am working in NYC for several months and am unable to get upstate to get a reading. I was there last week where I took the not great photos in this listing, but was not in a position to jump it and get the odometer reading. So right now the car is at the mechanic's. Once sold, I will Fedex the title and keys to the winning bidder and you can pick it up from them anytime. Oh, I didn't take a photo but I also have the front grille with the VW logo on it. The reason I'm selling it now is the week before I got the diagnosis on the Corrado, my daily driver ('99 Subaru Outback) crossed the 200,000-mile mark. And immediately thereafter (well, 425 miles after, to be precise) the transmission went. So I gave that to the National Kidney Foundation and replaced it with a Mazda6 wagon, so I could use some Corrado cash to replenish the coffers.
