Vehicle Detail
1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite Mk 1 VIN H-AN5L/24445 This is a 948cc powered car with drum brakes. I bought the car with the idea of doing a “rolling restoration” but work on another car has taken priority. Now I’m moving, so I’ve decided to let this one go and maybe find another after I’m resettled and the other car is finished. This car is finished in pearl white with a black dash and carpet and two-tone black/white seats. Though not a factory original color, it looks very nice. I believe it originally was finished in Old English white with a red interior. The carpet, seat belts and top are new. The seats are in fair condition. The tires have fewer than 1,000 miles on them. Overall the car is in average driving condition – not a show car by any means, but it always turns heads and generates a lot of thumbs-up and positive comments. The car has fresh brakes all around, carbs have been gone through, and new front wheel bearings, ignition components, generator and tach drive gearbox installed within the past two years. The grille had been painted silver by the previous owner rather than re-chromed. I removed the silver and painted the center black. The horn has been bypassed to a button on the dash. The radio does not work. The engine compartment could use some tidying up; the previous owner painted the car but not under the hood. There is some rust beginning to appear at the driver's side rocker panel (see photo). The correct license plate light and mounting plinth are not mounted but I will include them with the car. Also included are side curtains with fresh seals. The car is clean, runs reasonably well and is registered with antique plates in PA. It needs some TLC to improve its roadability, and is a great candidate for a more extensive restoration.
