Vehicle Detail
1971 Ford Torino 500 Rare Halo Roof car (Spring Promo model)I am the second owner56,000 numbers matching milesVery unmolested car I bought this car in the fall of 2008 with the intention of having a classic that would make a suitable daily driver and would have no problem keeping up with traffic, running cool and being dead reliable and getting respectable fuel mileage. This car was the result, and served me well for almost 30,000 miles of daily use in the spring through fall for almost five years. This particular car spent most of it's life in a garage and was one driven for short trips and in 42 years has never seen a snowflake. It is remarkably solid for a car that was notorious for rust! The torque boxes, floors, wheel houses and cowl area look perfect, and untouched. I went over the car before it was driven daily and replaced all the typical (and still original) wear items. Such upgrades: aluminum radiatorthermostat and aluminum housing with senderall coolant hoses replaced coolant flushednew water pumppower steering flushed trans fluid and filter and B&M shift kit upgrade both v-belts replaced oil pressure senderfuel pump temp sender reman carburetor valve cover gaskets HEI distributor upgrade KYB shocks front and rear PST front end kit (all ball joints, tie rods, control arms new) spring perches all poly-graphite bushings in suspension instead of original rubber large Addaco front and rear sway bars 1970 Mach I Mustang disc brake kit (was originally manual drum brakes) rotors, pads, bearings, races, seals calipers brake hoses washer pump master cylinder and booster upgrade using all OEM parts power steering pump all headlamp bulbs headliner door seals trunk seal quarter window seals air cleaner Motorsport wire set Optima battery and cables exhaust manifold gaskets complete factory style exhaust w/Dynomax turbo mufflers complete repaint January 2012 base coat/clear coat vinyl top deleted all chrome and bright work polished and reinstalled all lenses and trim polished or painted and reinstalled TST wax coated underside to repel moisture American Racing 17x9.5 and 17x8 Magnum 500 wheels and Nitto high performance tires (less than 1000 miles on them) Summit Racing gauge kitwired for hidden radioheadlamps wired on relays for all four to illuminate The car was in very good shape so the work done was mainly preventative to preserve the car. I did upgrade worn items with the best stuff I could find, such as the poly suspension, sway bars, exhaust, etc. The original paint was very thin and I was beginning to see some surface rust to the car was repainted the original colors. I disliked the vinyl top and instead I painted the roof a satin metallic green. I did my best to prevent doing irreversible modifications in case someone would want the car to be completely stock someday. Due to the suspension and rolling stock upgrades this car handles and stops like nobody's business. I would not be embarrassed to take it to a track. How good does it run and drive? Well, I have driven it to Detroit, Philidelphia, and it has been driven in the city of Pittsburgh regularly and it has never skipped a beat. This would make a great Hot Rod Power Tour Car as it has real street manners, looks great and gets 18-21 MPG. The 302 engine runs STRONG and is essentially stock. It does not use any fluids, make any unusual noises and I has lots of life left. I had planned for a stroker motor but the car always runs perfectly, so why mess with what works so well. I can compare it to my other car that has a supposedly rebuilt and modified 351W, and this car runs a lot better. I am ready to undertake a bigger project car that I have wanted since childhood so I must sacrifice one to a new owner. Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Sorry, I have no interest in trades and no financing, you pay in cash or certified check that has to clear. If you have an eBay feedback of zero or less, you MUST contact me before bidding. This is a no reserve auction. This car is for sale locally, I have the right as the seller to end this auction at any time. I have sold nearly a dozen antique cars on eBay and am familiar with selling overseas/long distance buyers and will cooperate to make it as smooth as possible for you.
