Vehicle Detail
I am selling this non-running 1972 2002tii either as a project car or as a parts car. I restored it back in the late-1980s, with a rebuilt engine and Kugelfischer fuel injection pump, and a new paint job. New restoration parts included: left and right front fenders, front end body panel and all related chrome work, dashboard, muffler, carpet, headliner, door, window and trunk gaskets. The last time I started the vehicle was 1997. It has sat --mostly tarp covered-- on a relative's lot in San Antonio since the late-1980s when I moved abroad for work. Benignly neglected, the car will need a major work-over to get up and running again. Much of the paint job has not weathered the years well, as the pictures attest: the bonnet, roof and trunk all show major paint cracking and peeling. There is some very minor rust showing in the lower corners of both doors and one of the rocker panels. The second gear synchro was repaired, but was failing when last driven in 1997. The A/C, also repaired, was not cooling at that time. OEM 2002tii Shop Manual Repair Service Book is included. I've uploaded a video walk-around for additional perspectives. Email and I will provide the link. Of course, please email with any questions you may have and I will try my best to answer them. Thanks On Apr-29-13 at 14:56:15 PDT, seller added the following information:For those within traveling distance of Northside San Antonio, the car will be available to look over this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 9 to 5. If you want to see the car up close and personal, contact me and I can give you more details. Thanks. On May-01-13 at 13:27:26 PDT, seller added the following information:Some questions have been asked about any undercarriage rust, so I will try my best to describe: When I restored this car back in the 1980s in Austin, Texas, I had the opportunity to look the entire car over as i removed the engine, transmission, gas tank, muffler, seats, carpet, door panels and so on. The only structural rust i found --undercarriage included-- was on the front two fenders and the nose panel. Hence their replacement. The entire under carriage looked to be in excellent shape. Now that was more than 25 years ago. The car was garaged for 4 years, then custom car-coverings were used for the next 15 years (going through several as the Texas sun took its toll on them. For the last 4 years it has had blue tarps over it. San Antonio is a dry climate, and so not much rain has fallen in the city over the years. I cant imagine any structural rust problems arising as the car sat over the years in Texas. On May-01-13 at 17:04:10 PDT, seller added the following information:On May-04-13 at 06:28:41 PDT, seller added the following information:I will be in San Antonio later this morning (Saturday 5/4). Regards, WillOn May-04-13 at 18:46:15 PDT, seller added the following information:Rust, Part 2: I know rust on the 2002's is a big concern for potential buyers, especially when the buying is to be done without being able to physically look over the car. I spent a couple of hours today jacking up and photographing the undercarriage of this car. I really feel that any rust on this car is purely cosmetic and not structural. The engine support rails, rocker panels, fender wells, floor wells, wheel well, and struts are all solid, showing no rust-through, with the exception of a few tiny rust holes along right rocker panel (see photos). The rocker panels can be firmly tapped with a rubber mallet and show no soft spots. The metal around the windows is all solid and free of rust, a common problem found on many 2002s. The wheel wells are rust-free. The shock towers are rust-free. To the best of my knowledge (and I know this car well) no one should have concerns about buying a rusted-out 2002 here. I can imagine that a removal of all paint would show some small areas needing minor fill repair, but in the big picture scheme of things for this car, rust is not an issue. I am being as forthright about this car as I can be. Look over the photos I have just linked here, and please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. We can talk by phone if you wish. These are in addition to the ones installed on the car.
