Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is (was) my pride and joy, 2001 Audi TT Quattro 5-speed. I was the second owner of this car when I purchased it with about 30k miles back in 2003. It was in absolutely mint condition when I purchased it with the exception of a small crack in the lower front fender (pic included) and it has pretty much stayed that way ever since. 10 years later I put an additional 100k miles on it… very enjoyable miles… mostly commuting back in forth between Columbus and Dayton, Ohio and zero accidents the entire time. About 15 months ago, while driving back to Dayton I suddenly lost all forward momentum and later found out that I had slipped a timing belt. As many Audi fans may know… that’s basically a death sentence for the engine. I was particularly upset because I religiously serviced this car with a custom Audi/BMW shop in Columbus and I was assured that my timing belt had more life on it. In hindsight, I should have replaced my timing belt by 80k no questions asked… but I’m not too much of a car guy and I trusted my mechanic. Bad idea. The car has sat in my garage, covered ever since. My father and father-in-law helped me take the top half of the engine apart to make sure it was in fact the timing belt, and to inspect how bad the damage to the engine was. I’ve tried to take pictures of all the relevant bits but our diagnosis was that the engine will need to be re-machined or replaced altogether. Neither of which I have the time, talent, or money to do. So up for sale she goes… General Description: Audi TT 2001 Quattro 5-speed, 180HP turbo. I’d rate the overall body in excellent condition. There are roughly two small dings in each door from other careless parkers but they are only noticeable from the right angle and up close and none of them have broken the paint. There is also a small crack in the paint behind the driver’s side door handle about 3 inches long. I’ve tried to document the body flaws as best I can but the lighting in my garage isn’t great and the reflection in the paint tends to make photos difficult. On the bright side… the paint is in phenomenal shape for the age – thus the shiny reflection. I gave the car a sponge bath just to get the year’s worth of dust off and it shined right up. Given a proper polish and wax the paint looks awesome and holds a great shine. No rust on the car whatsoever. It was almost always garaged and only driven in about half of the winters I owned it. A couple of the wheels are a little buggered up from curb rash. Also done by the previous owner. The interior is absolutely phenomenal. I was generous with armor all and leather polish the entire time I owned her. The leather is in great shape, the floors are in great shape and the dash, doors, and consoles are all like new. I’d wager that the interior of this car is about as good as you’ll find for a 2001. The sound system is the premium Bose speakers and 6 disc changer. Everything worked great and the speakers still sounded great a year ago. The only bug with the disc changer is that one or two of the slots would occasionally not play… I’d have to eject the disc holder and reload and then normally everything was fine. I’ve tried to indicate any body blemishes with red circles in the pics. Mileage: I’m currently charging the battery so that I can hook it up and hopefully bring the dash display up, assuming that disassembling the top half of the engine didn’t detach anything needed for the dash. I believe the mileage was around 125k give or take a thousand or two. Like I said, the VAST majority of those miles were spent on cruise control at about 70mph on the highway. Maintenance: I have 90% of the service records associated with this car. I spared no expense concerning maintenance. With the exception of not replacing the timing belt as I already mentioned. If my mechanic recommended it… I got it done. If there’s anything specific you are wondering about just send me a message and I can check the records. If I get time tomorrow I might try to list when some of the more pricey services were performed. The windshield was replaced within a year of the engine dying due to a rock. The tires have at least 50% of their life on them. Miscellaneous and Payment: If you have any questions please just let me know and I’ll post more. This is kind of a spur of the moment decision so I’m trying to get this listed before I change my mind. There will be no reserve so I’m starting the bidding at my absolute lowest price of $3k. I estimate that this car in such good condition would have fetched $9-10k before the engine blew up… a new engine installed will be roughly $2-3k if done professionally… so I think a starting price of $3k is fair. Payment: The winning bidder will need to make a deposit of $250 within 48 hours of the end of the auction!! This has to either be cash or a paypal deposit. The balance of payment can be delivered in cash upon pick up. Pickup needs to happen within 10 days of the auction ending. Certified check or money order will also be accepted. Any other arrangements will have to be cleared with me in advance. Thanks in advance and happy bidding. On Apr-28-13 at 10:50:12 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I was able to get the battery hooked back up in order to power the dash. The odometer read 131,814! Sorry for the confusion... it has been over a year since I had the dash powered so I thought it was closer to 125k. Anyways... full disclosure... the mileage is 131,814. I tried posting more pics but I'm at my max and can't seem to alter the listing at this point. If you want more pics just message me. I also noticed for the first time that the display for temperature is a little pixelated. Otherwise the instrument cluster looks find and appears to be functioning properly. Albeit, there are lot of lights on at the moment since have the engine is removed. Also, several people have been asking the following questions...Q: What is the engine code? A: AWP as seen in the pic of the head, there is an AWP stamped into the corner.Q: What variety of 1.8L 4cylinder turbo engine is this? A: based on the vehicle report I found this "1.8L 1781CC l4 GAS DOHC Turbocharged"Q: Can I issue an "open title" A: Still researching this a little bit. I have no problem letting the buyer fill in the price but I'm researching the liability issues of not having a buyer sign the title over. Will let you know when I speak with the BMV here tomorrow. Or if someone happens to know the answer feel free to enlighten me.Q: What will I take for the car? A: The response has been very positive so far so I will be letting the auction go through to completion. Thank you for the interest. Thanks,John
