Vehicle Detail

This 1971 Super Beetle has been a dependable daily driver for the past two years. This bug is a very good restoration candidate. Other than tune up and oil change it has not required any maintenance. The car has been repainted with the original blue but it has its share of blemishes. Needs a real good buffing. I’d rate it a 6 out of 10. Brake system works as it should with all lines clean and dry. E Brake is operable as well. Steering and front strut suspension are tight with no shimmy but I notice the shimmy dampner, is leaking a little oil so it should be replaced – minor repair. The air box that directs air to the windshield for the defrost is disconnected – you can see this in the pics. Needs to have ductwork reassembled. Cabin heater is operable and tubes in solid condition. The passenger side door cannot be opened from the inside but it will lock and open from the outside. The linkage from the inner door handle needs to be inspected to determine the fix. The horn and radio do not work but all other electrical including dash, directionals, tail lights/break lights, headlamps, wipers etc. are operational. There is some rust under the battery box but other than that the car is solid. One ding on the right rear fender as seen in the pics, and someone dented in my rear bumper at the stop light. The engine is strong and burns no oil but it leaks oil – pretty typical of these old bugs. Count on a dozen drops to hit the parking lot until the engine cools down. You can see this in the under engine pics. Gear box and drive train function as it should but if you have never driven a manual shift bug before it takes a little practice to find the gears. Tires including the spare are good – 50% life remaining. Original interior is worn and the bottom cushion of the rear seat is missing. Tabs expire end of April so if you want to test drive, other than around the parking lot, it has to happen soon. Clear WA state title.
