Vehicle Detail
Sometimes in life you just don't know if you are coming or going. Well here is the answer to that problem. You can putter down the roads either way in this and no one would know the difference. This is a 1957 Fiat Multipla. It is a total project. It does not run. It does not drive. It probably does not even stop. But is pushes just fine. And you can pick up the rear end and move it around by hand pretty easily. It is a long ,long time sitter here in the Arizona sunshine. Over 30 years worth of sitting. This neat old Fiat was last on the road here in Arizona in 1979,according to the old Arizona license plate on it. Not sure after that, but that gives a clue. The engine is out and apart but included. It is apart but looks clean, nice and all there. The connecting rods look to have new , but very old, bearings on them.Same with the mains on the block. the camshaft looks redone, same with the pressure plate. The crankshaft looks great. And I have boxes of new Vandervell main and connecting rod bearings and I will include some for this engine just in case.Whover took the engine out had it apart and was getting it set for a rebuild. The car looks mostly all there. There is rust on the front drivers floor and passenger floor up front, but the rest of the floor pan looks great. Take a look at the jack point in the pictures. Jack points usually tell you everything you want to know about floorpan rust. And the main floors in this Multipla are nice. Same with rockers, arches, fender wheelwell lips, lower doors and such. These things rust like an old steel Bud can out in the Louisianna Bayou swamp, so this is a great body. The rear bumper is missing, and maybe some other small stuff, but this is as complete ,original and rustfree a 1957 Fiat Multipla that has sat for like 35 years as you will find for the money. The little things like interior dooor handles, window cranks. knobs, buttons and such look all there. And you are not going to find that stuff at Walmart. The front grille does not seem to be there. Though it might be, but I have not spotted it yet.Someone a long time ago took off the front bumper and laid this thin aluminum over it. And kind of riveted it here and there. While I don't think they were aiming for less aero drag in the 1970 Bonneville Salt Flats Races, I am not sure what the intention was . And probably the same fellow repainted the factory paint with the present funky gold brown paint. But hey, it was the 70's, the guy was probably stoned and went with the color of the day.And he used a skim coat of bondo in places, mostly on the doors. At least he did not add green shag carpet to the interior. Though someone did the door panels and rear seat in a brown vinyl of some sort. Could of been worse.Could of had a cowhide look to it. Or even worse, flowers.. Glass is mostly good all around, though there is a small crack on the left side of the windshield that comes in a couple inches and goes right back to the edge so it will not get any worse. The seats are probably the originals so they need redone. But the hinges all move nicely. There are 2 extra wheels. And all four stock hubcaps are there. I found most if not all of the emblems. The Multipla looks to of been originally a steel gray blue color. Now the light brown gold with white top.The front bumper is loose and I just hung it on there for the pics. Always start with the best rustfree body as you can find and this is it for Fiat Multipla wagons. These are just all around neat vehicles. And this one will be a great one to work with as a restoration project. I can arrange shipping if needed, including overseas no problem. And I travel around the country with my truck and trailer and might be able to get it to you or close for reasonable money. The car has a straight clean Arizona title .
