Vehicle Detail
You are looking at what very well could be the nicest restored 1971- 1973 Mustang Convertible in existence (I have spent over $70,000 on this project). Beginning five years ago, this car has gone through a complete, frame off, nut & bolt restoration with absolutely no expense spared. We started with a very solid 1972 Mustang Convertible that was originally Grabber Blue from the factory. Originally sporting a 302, we decided to add the complete driveline from a 1972 Mustang Mach 1, including the 351 Cleveland engine. The engine was given a complete $8,000 performance build, bored .30, given a loopy cam that sounds like it means business, balanced & blueprinted. The best of everything available was put in this engine. We added a Holly carb, performance intake, complete electronic ignition with MSD box, fully functional RAM AIR assembly with all Cobra Jet components, top-of-the-line radiator, alternator, battery, spark plugs, wires... everything! The performance exhaust begins with the custom built headers, through the stainless mandrel bent dual exhaust with dual 40 Series Flowmaster Mufflers and ends with the dual chrome tips that sit snuggly under the appropriate Mach 1 rear valance. The C4 automatic transmission was treated to a total rebuild with shift kit, as was the Posi rear end. This car features large power disc brakes up front with drums in back, hidden behind brand new 15 inch Magnum 500 wheels and huge Radial T/A tires. The suspension is all brand new. In order to achieve the aggressive look we were after, we dropped the front 2'' and the rear 1". The car handles like it's on rails. The body was completely disassembled from the frame, bead blasted, sealed and painted. $16,000 was then invested in the outstanding Grabber Blue paint job. Only the best DuPont base and clear coat paints were used. The finish is outstanding and looks as if you could put your hand through it. All of the appropriate Mach 1 accent striping was painted on the hood in Wimbledon White while the body striping kit was added to the sides and rear. As you can see from the photos, all door jams, etc are perfectly painted to show quality standards. Every bit of trim on the car is new. New bumpers, Mach 1 grill, headlights, bezels, door handles, gas cap, window trim, front spoiler, rear spoiler, tail lights etc. We spent over $2,000 alone on brand new glass around the whole car. This is one of the nicest paint jobs you will see anywhere. The white interior (actually very, very light cream color) was completely redone using OEM fabric. I spent $1,200 on custom Mercedes Benz cut pile carpet, instead of the loop carpet that can frizz with age. This is the type of detail stuff that is usually thrown out the window with Barrett Jackson cars. The dash and center console were completely restored using all new gauges, gauge faces, bezels, etc. The interior looks like the day it rolled off the showroom floor, including the factory center console with clock and shifter assembly. We also added a reproduction Mustang radio with ipod adapter, as well as a custom, power antenna. The color combination of the Grabber Blue over white is striking. The brand new white vinyl top includes rear glass, not plastic and matching parade boot. I have driven this car over 3,000 miles since it was completed and it has been nothing but dependable. My wide and I have taken it from Orange County to San Francisco and out to Las Vegas and back with zero overheating issues. This car sounds and feels like a race car.... like a crazy powerful Harley on four wheels. It is loud and commands attention. Having had the opportunity to own many amazing cars (GTO Judge, 442 Convertible, Buick GSX), I have never had/ seen a car that draws people's attention like this one. This car has gone to 20+ car shows in Southern California and has never left without winning Best of Show or Best in Class. We can't even stop at a gas station without having people ask if they can take a picture of, or with the car. When we decided to build this car, we didn't want to go with the resto-mod look. We wanted something that would look and feel as close to stock as possible, while making the necessary visual/ performance modifications that would set it apart. All work on the car has been documented in photos and the car has always been serviced at the same well known place... Mustangs and Fast Fords OC. The car was just recently put on a Dyno for performance tuning (I will also add a link to this video). If you know Mustangs, you know what a special car this is. These 71-73 Mustang Convertibles are hard to find, and very few, if any, are at this level of quality. This is a car you can take to shows and draw a crowd, cruise down Main Street, or lay down some serious rubber on a back road. Please respect the fact that I will not deal with tire kickers or low ball offers. The reserve on this car is under half of what I have in it. I have a growing family and selling this car is a responsible decision... not a necessity. Should you have the winning bid, you will not be disappointed. The car is kept in a climate controlled garage, has never seen the rain and has only been cleaned/ detailed with waterless methods. I have tried to be as open and honest as possible in this description, but if you have any other specific questions, please feel free to email me.. clay (at) bowmangroup (dot) net, or call my cell at 9492334677. You are welcome to come inspect the car for yourself or arrange to have your mechanic give it a thorough inspection. There is no warranty, expressed or implied. I have had over twenty calls from ebay members and several inquiries from local buyers. The first person with $32,000 takes the car. Trust me when I say it is a steal at that price.
