Vehicle Detail
The truth is, I was not looking to get another truck. I had one that I wanted to sell, and this fella offered me this unbelievable beauty in trade. As my truck needed more assembly and I was ready for a change I did the deal with him. The title finally came in and now it's your turn. 1953 Chev black 5 window cab 1 1/2 ton out of Oklahoma with original paint. On a fine day not long after getting it I drove it the 10 miles or so down to the refuse transfer station to get a scale weight on it (5880 with me and a couple gallons of gas in it). I drove down the back road at 45 then crossed over and back home on the two lane "main highway". NICE RIG. I didn't run it over 45 and must admit that I did add a quart of oil before I left as it was down since the last time it was changed back in Oklahoma at 19,258 - DIG THIS - on 11/1/89 according to the windshield post sticker. The story is that the fella who bought this rig new owned an ag equipment outfit in Fairview Oklahoma, which accounts for the air brake tubes back by the rear axle that are simply shut by what looks like good old 1/4 turn gate valves. The 9' bed (very nice indeed) is a later addition as he had some sort of 5th wheel hitch or some darned thing on there. So, this rare old 53 ton and a half shorty truck has POWER BRAKES. I don't know nothing about that, but sure seems to be the case. The original owner spent the money for the 5 window cab (I think it was optional?), a chrome hood bullnose ornament, and chrome grille guards. It has a Chevrolet heater with manual switch to defrost/heat. The 235 engine starts right up after you pull the choke and mash the starter on the floor.....you know how that goes or you wouldn't even be LOOKING at such a thing, would you. Also has hand throttle. The seat has been re-covered in fine 2 tone turquoise vinyl. The old upholstery didn't last well in these old trucks (I'll post a pic of one of the armrests). I, and a couple of fellows I have discussed this with agree that this upholstery could well have been done at the GM dealer right there in old Fairview, as it looks for all the world like it could be for a 58 or somesuch Olds or Buick convertible. The left front headlight has lost it's hi-beam so I bought a new one for it, then noticed that the screw at the bottom of the trim ring is missing or broken, so am going to provide that headlight and let you do it. Fair enough? Both doors fit perfectly. I have made a little vid of opening and closing each one. The right side needs a little bit more muscle. I think because one of the rubber bumpers is missing. The man I got it from said when he went to drive up to the drag races with a load of kids, something stunk the place up. Upon investigation, it turned out not to be one of the children, rather a mouse house in the clutch! So this rig has a practically new clutch, pressure plate and pilot bushing. I guess the flywheel didn't need to be turned. You get the old papers from 1953 onwards in this deal, including when the old fella passed away and his wife registered it in her name, it's first insurance card in '53, Chevrolet Delco battery warranty in the original gold CAR PAPERS folder from CORNELSON MOTOR CO. 115 South Main St. Fairview, Oklahoma Phone 4422. If this dealership still exists, give em a shout, they might want to bid on this. Also in the glovebox was the original 1953 Chevrolet truck operator's manual. The fella I got this truck from told me that these real old split rims are the worst ever, and I will take him at his word since he collects this sort of thing. He threw in 6 more modern (1960 - 70's style) 20 inch split rims with it. A couple of em have good tires on them too! I am imagining that all the tires on this rig are factory original, but wouldn't swear to it. All of that said, you will find scratches and tiny dings here and there. Like the plate behind the front bumper - guys have been stepping up on that for a long time and it is still in remarkable condition. I tried to show pictures of the rear cab corners as those are often a problem area. Very nice! Buyer to arrange and pay all shipping. I tried to put a link here to a few small videos that I made but ebay would not allow me to either post a link or for you to simply copy and paste it, so if you'd like to see them please email me and I will be more than happy to send it along to you. More information is good! let's see if this will somehow work, try copy/paste this (change the DOTs)- vidzandpixDOTblogspotDOTcom/2013/02/here-is-walkaround-of-my-new-truck.html After answering an email question about rust under the cab mat (zero rust under the cab mat), I got to looking real close for any signs of rust and FOUND SOME under the left and right lower door hinge on the cab side. I am now going to try to post pictures of those two spots. Thank you. If you have any questions, please click email seller above. THANKS FOR LOOKING!
