Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is this 1966 Ford Thunderbird Town Landau. 1966 was the only year that this roofline was offered, making it very unique. The Town Hardtops and Landaus had a more formal roofline which eliminated the quarter windows. 1966 was also the only year among this series of T-Bird offered with or without fender skirts. When the fender skirts were not ordered, chrome wheel opening moldings were added. This particular T-Bird has been in the San Francisco Bay Area it's entire life and was owned within the same family until we acquired it a few months ago. This T-Bird still wears it's original black/yellow license plates issued when new and we have the original purchase agreement from Holiday Ford in Palo Alto, CA. The Thunderbird is equipped with a 390 4-Barrel V8, Cruise-O-Matic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows including vent windows, power door locks (not working), AM radio, swing-away steering wheel and Landau top. The mileage shows 14,073 which we were told is 114,073 miles. When we purchased the car, the paint was tired. We've included a couple of photographs at the end of the auction to show what condition the car was in prior to paint. There were minor dings and scratches but absolutely NO RUST to be repaired. All side moldings, wheel openings, door handles and other trim was removed prior to paint. It was repainted in the original Vintage Burgundy with base coat/clear coat paint and then color sanded and polished. The original vinyl top is in very good condition and there are no signs of any rust underneath the top or around the rear window. The chrome is original and still shines very well. All the lights work as they should including the sequential tail lights. The interior is original and in very good condition. The seats, headliner, dashpad and carpeting are all in great shape. The door panels do have minor separations on the armrest cups like nearly all Thunderbirds do. These still look very presentable but reproductions are available. Mechanically the car runs and drives great. It is incredibly smooth and cruises all day long without any issues. As noted above, the power door locks (vacuum operated) are not working. In addition the clock and AM radio seem to work intermittently and there is some creaking from the rear shocks/bushings. None of these are big issues but we wanted to mention them. As with any 47 year old car, there may be other issues and of course the car is being sold AS-IS. Buyer agrees to pay a $500.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit within 24 hours of auction end via PayPal. The balance is due within 5 days of auction end. Balance to be paid via Cash (in person), Cashier's Check or Wire Transfer. All funds will be verified before the vehicle will be released. Worldwide Buyers welcome.
