1977 Hurst Hatch Trans Am 1977 TRANS AM with the rare Hurst T Tops Loaded car with PW, PDB, AC, PDL and more. Let me start off by saying, this car was actually built for the 80s car show events back in the late 80s. The what I call "custom paint job" had lots of metal flake and prob did its job 25 yrs ago. The motor had a mild build to it and is no longer the original 400. It does have 69 Heads on it and what I think to be a 70-73 block. Trying to research it more and trying to find more #s on the block. What I know about the motor Ive posted pics below. So far I found the # 481988 on the back of the block up top. This car has spent 90-% of its life in AZ. Somehow it did get some rust on the LR quarter and in front of the rear wheelwell.Front fenders, rockers, trunk and Hatch area are solid ~!The floors are good too best I can tell inside and out. The carwas stolen many yrs ago where they broke the steering column. When the car was retrieved it was just shelved basically and the owner wasnt motivated to fix it. He then decided to sell the car to a salvage yard here in town. That brings up info on the title. Whenever a auto recycler buys a car, if they plan on parting it out, they automatically get a DISMANTLE brand AZ title.This car never got parted out and we bought the car before it luckily went away to parts. NOW, in Arizona you can get the car up and running and make it road legal again. You just have to make sure everything works on the car again (lites etc, good glass etc.) then drive the car to MVD for a Level 2 inspection and once it passes inspection, they give you a Normal Clear Title.This is how it works in Arizona and our rules here are harder then most states. So to see how it works in your area, maybe call your Local MVD and see how they do it there. But the car comes with an AZ Title with a Dismantle brand. (far better then a salvage etc..) DRIVETRAIN: car starts up, runs decent for sitting so long we did go thru the carb, thats all it really needed to run. Im sure whoever buys it will probably detail the motor and do a restoration type tune up the way they want. And it for sure could use new wires, plugs etc. 4 spd feels good as does the clutch. Brakes need to be bled, they work but Ican feel some air in the lines. Car will start up and drive onto a hauler no problem. Carb and chrome valve covers seem to be original for the car. No smoke or weird noises from the engine itself other then exhaust leaks. I believe its still a 400 ci motor.INTERIOR: is showing its age. Has some good but alot of worn out parts and will need alot of resto. Tach works and most of the gauges do too and looks very complete. Rubber and plastic old, removed the backseat, didnt see the buildsheet yet. Factory Hurst Shifter is pretty cool. Suprisingly, the door hinges arent hammered and doors dont sag a bit. So does the car have 50k or 150k on it, really hard to say for sure. Both outter handles broken, typical. SUSPENSION: pontiac 15x7 rallys, WS4 option, it actually feels decent, but the old air shocks need to go. Im sure it will need some work, but nothing major stands out that it will need right away there. Front tires okay, rears are junk. Below in the pics youll see how we got the car with an80 Nose on it with some "custom" touches to it. It came with a used 77 Nose, which we loosely bolted on. How much of it is usable for the restoration, not sure. All the rear lights are working, but none of the front lights are wired or connected. This car really deserves to be restored with OEM GM parts that are missing and put 100% back to factory specs !! Its the only way to hold its value over the years. Fair Reserve, but if it doesnt meet reserve theres always a chance a deal can be struck after the auction ends. THESE CARS ARE ON THE RISE and this one the first one Ive seen for sale locally in 8 yrs. Although this is not a matching #s TA the motor in it is still prob better then the anemic 77 400 motor and still isnt a big deal for resale values. Az cars are well known for being the easiest and best cars to buy to restore. Our older cars are more like time capsules most of the country isnt use use to seeing.
