Vehicle Detail
Here we have a 1982 Suzuki DR500 in excellent condition. Bike is bone stock. There is no speedometer, so I just guessed about the milage on this listing. This bike belonged to an elderly (big guy) man who used it to buzz around on his farm until he just got too old...so it sat in storage for several years. He ultimately gave it to his grand-nephew (high school kid) as compensation for helping him on his farm. The kid couldn't even kick the bike over, so he sold it to me. I have the title but never registered the bike in my name. I cleaned the carburetor, filled my pockets with rocks and the bike started right up....that was summer before last....been sitting since. This motorcycle is too big for me (160lbs), and it easily has the most compression of any bike I've ever owned. What a beast...I can literally stand on the kickstart lever and it doesn't move. To start it, I have to actually jump on the kickstarter. It has incredible low-end torque, and I now understand why so many people love these things... very desirable in vintage racing circles. Shipping is up to the buyer, but I will help with the process. More pics on request. Low starting bid, no reserve. Please email any questions. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. On Feb-26-13 at 12:43:33 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I just rolled my Suzuki out of storage. I'm embarrassed to admit that I neglected to drain the gas before I stored it, so the carburetor will need to be cleaned...again. Fortunately, this carburetor is pretty easy to clean. Also, I just noticed that the right side cover has a small crack in it. Overall, though, this bike is in great shape and really only needs minor help. It has been neglected, but it's never been abused. On Feb-27-13 at 15:05:35 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I've had a chance to look at this bike more closely, and for the sake of transparency I'd like to add the following details: I just noticed that the gas cap is self-destructing (new one from dealer is $17). The front tire looks original, but the back tire has been replaced....still looks new. The left side plastic side cover has a small crack. The slide is stuck inside the carburetor...gas is lacquered. The problems that this Suzuki has are minor, easily resolved, and typical of a motorcycle that has been in storage for years. I do know that it ran very well a couple of years ago.
