The Mercedes SL/SLC class traditionally was never known for being the fastest, best handling, sports car on the market. However, they were always known for being well-built cars that were great fun on long drives and incredibly reliable. The C107 Chassis was extremely stiff and helped make a great platform for race and rallye cars of the day. Plus, the 4.5-liter V8 engine was one of Mercedes Benz’s best-built motors. It is often referred to as the German version of the Chevy 350 small block.
This Mercedes was purchased new in 1976 from a local Southern California dealership. This owner was a local businessman who owned a chain of shopping malls. Over 5 years ago, the original owner became ill and the SLC went into storage. Three years ago, the current owner purchased the car when his Mercedes mechanic told him it was for sale. The same Mercedes mechanic worked on the car for over 25+ years.
The mechanic said that the original owner was very conscientious and always took care of the necessary services. He didn’t recall the car ever needing anything major. It was just one of those well-built cars that runs forever.
The car was repainted its original color several years ago due to the clear coat peeling off. The paint looks great. The interior is very nice as well with no signs or smells of abuse. The dashboard does have a couple of cracks on it. Everything works except for the clock. Even the A/C blows cold.
The current owner has performed the following recent services:

Rebuilt brake master cylinder

As you can imagine, this SLC drives great. Very smooth and very tempting to just add it to my own collection.
