Vehicle Detail
A few month ago I was clearing an estate and took possession of this 1948 Ariel Red Hunter. I quickly applied for title and have it now free and clear. The Motorcycle comes from a climate controlled building that was dry, and has preserved it fairly well. We got eight bikes in all of which none had been registered since 1992. This leads me to conclude that they have been there at least that long. I dont have much knowledge on any motorcycles this old so I am leaving the bid at no reserve and the high bidder will own it. Check the photos well as I paid for upgrade as this will be your best way of assessing value. CONDITION: The first thing to mention is that it does have a few rust issues on the bolt on parts such as the tail pipes, the chain, and pitting on the handlebars. The frame forks and other major components are all relatively rust free. The mufflers are missing. The gauges are not in the tank but the Smith's speedo and SW gauge are in a box that comes with the bike. There is no ignition switch or key. The wiring looks newer as maybe this is why some of the components are not in the tank. There is a fair amount of rust in the tank (see photos) GOOD NEWS: The motor turns over, throttle turns carb butterfly as they should, brakes works well, clutch or compression hand lever (left) works well and is tied in the closed position. Steering feels as it should, and wheels turn freely. Tires have good tread. Tank looks good with no dents, and paint on fenders and frame looks pretty good. MY MEDLING: I was exited when I first got it and found the 1938 BSA front plate on ebay and bought it It is only loosley bolted on as it will need a slight modification to fit perfectly. This is the ony part I know is incorrect so I wanted to point that out. SHIPPING: will not happen till funds have cleared. You will be responcible for all expences and arrangments of shipping. I will drop it off and any shipping depot you wish within 50 miles of Portland Oregon area. This should save you some money instead of picking up at my addy. It ways about 450 pounds. Payment by Paypal. Could possible arrange delivery north up Hwy 5 as far as Everrett as I go there often on Business. Bike still must be paid for up front. On Feb-05-13 at 15:47:43 PST, seller added the following information:The number on the top of the block just below the head that did not show in the photos is "CK". The number on the carb is hard to read. Is is like a double stamping or the stamp jumped during the strike. Looks like "276 P B/1J" if the 276 part of this number is supposed to be four digit then the extra number would be a 6, as in "2766". Thank you for your interest and good luck.
