Vehicle Detail
Bodymans bargain - This car was very close to perfect until an interstate driver drifted and made contact with the passengers rear quarter panel. The damage can be repaired by re-forming the sheet metal in place, adding bondo, smoothing and then painting only the rear quarter panel. Everything else about the car remains close to perfect, especially considering the age and milage it has been driven. We decided to not fix the car and sell as-is. There have been no repairs or touch up done to any of the blemishes this car has. Everything that I know will be disclosed in this description. There are 34 full resolution pictures including the written damage estimate from State Farm, located at the URL listed below. My picture taking did not do the car justice. It looks better than the photos. The link for the photos is www.flickr.com/photos/classicride This is my wifes car and we are the second owners. The first owner was a dealer in the Houston area and he kept the car until November 2007 when he traded it in at a local Ford Dealership. He put the first 24,979 miles on the vehicle. We immediately purchased the car after he traded it and have had it for the last 5 years. She drove the car to her place of work for the first 2 years, 100 miles round trip per week, 5000 miles per year. The car has sat in the garage for the past 3 years with very little usage. This car looks about as close to new as can be. It has an excellent shine and the body is in excellent condition - (other than the quarter panel damage). Mechanically the car is very solid, clean inside, out and underneath. No oil leaks anywhere. Engine uses no oil. I replaced the transmission and differential oil with synthetic immediately after purchasing. The engine oil (and filter) has been changed at 3000 mile intervals with Mobil 1 synthetic. Air filter has been changed a couple of times. I have achieved 30 MPG on the highway driving 55 MPH (just in case you want to be conservative). I wouldn't hesitate to drive the car across the U.S. tomorrow. It is fully reliable and ready to roll. This car has never been driven hard or fast. Everything I know that is not perfect or needs repair is listed below. The photos also show and have notes for each of the issues below. Several of the issues are minor and the cracks and chips can be repaired with glue and a toothpick dab of paint. I chose to do no touch up and instead to reveal all I know that is or has been damaged. 1) Of course the sad distorted metal on the rear quarter panel - less than $1000 will get this repaired....2) These cars had a cheap plastic gear on the odometer that got brittle and broke. It happened to this car and I estimate about 4 thousand additional miles were put on the car by the time my wife noticed and a repair was made.....3) Two almost invisible very small "creases" in the passenger door - have to be pointed out to see.....4) Small amount of road rash on the front end of the car. 15 "rock chips" of which 13 are the size of the tip of a wooden toothpick and 2 are about 1/8" long by 1/16" wide. And down on the coast there are some bugs called "love bugs". They are full of acid and if they get on your paint and you don't wash them off quickly, they will stain the paint. The first owner got some of these on the plastic and the resulting hand full of small stains won't buff out of the plastic bumper....5) I cracked the edge of the plastic cowing beneath the windshield while cleaning the car.....6) There is a crack in the plastic of the dash underneath the radio.....7) One repaired rock chip in the windshield.....8) Handfull of specs in the glass of the drivers door, toward the rear of the glass. These are not noticeable unless you look hard. I can't guess what caused these. Kelly Blue Book for my area code shows a private selling value of $15,353 in FAIR condition. This car was excellent until the dent of the quarter panel happened. It is still excellent aside from the unfortunate damage which has happened. I am pricing the car to sell fast. The reserve price is somewhat below the buy it now. Good luck and thanks for looking.
