Vehicle Detail

This one-of-a-kind custom salt flat racer based on a 1951 Chevy Styleline Deluxe with Jaguar 4.2L power. The car was continuously developed over a 25 year time period. It was driven daily, ran on the drag strips, and raced on the salt flats by a man who lived in his garage -- a real life story much like Burt Munro's World's Fastest Indian. The car was featured in magazines in the US, Japan and Europe, and is now available in Santa Clara, California for $19,500. What started out as a 1951 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe body was modified over and over by the builder, constantly morphing shapes into its current state. The firewall is high gloss painted, and the engine compartment is now a distressed original black. The exterior is Hot Rod Red Oxide Flat in color. Welds are exposed and no bondo was used. The doors were replaced with custom flush body panels. Inner panels were removed and lightened. A custom gas tank was fabricated and the headlights Frenched. The sale includes cut, stripped and prepared panels for a hood if you would like to add one in the future, but the seller prefers the look without the hood. The frame of the car was custom made and the suspension features a Mustang II front suspension and Formula V race car coil-overs in rear. Mechanically this vehicle is very strong according to the seller. The Jaguar XK 4.2L dual overhead camshaft engine. A custom aluminum intake manifold was fabricated two accept two Ford carburetors. There is a smoothed radiator and all custom aluminum water piping. Smoothed Jaguar headers. Custom water pump and fan, electric fan, new lightweight racing starter, and a new battery were just installed. A 5-speed manual from a late model Camaro was added, and it has a modified original shifter stalk and original knob added. A Ford 9-inch rear end finishes it off. The engine sounds like a powerful hot rod at low speeds, yet is surprisingly very quiet and smooth on the freeway. The brakes work great and there is no emergency brake. Custom gauges and period correct vintage hot rod accessory gauges. The interior has been removed and bucket seats are from a vintage Mercedes. This car is currently registered in California with a clear title. Old style California black plates are on the front and back. It can (and has) been driven from SF to LA or Los Angeles to the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah or El Mirage. Plus. A huge box full of photographs included with sale documenting build of this car year-by-year over the last 25 years. Additional Keywords: Custom. Rat Rod. Ratrod. Hot Rod. Hotrod. Chevrolet. Jag. Bonneville Salt Flat Race Car. Old School. Convertible.
