Hello and Thank You for viewing my auction. Up for auction is a highly collectible last year made 1985 380sl. This is considered to be the best sl made because it had all the quirks worked out and had all the updates and the last of its kind before the problematic 5.6 arrived in 1986. I have had this car for a few years and rarely drove it. The last time I drove the car was in June/July of last year and it drove perfectly but now it does not want to start. I had new tires installed last year and they have less than 100 miles on them and also had a new fuel pump installed and also had the air conditioning fixed and converted to the new 134a refrigerant and it was ice cold last time I used it last summer. I had a "bmw" mechanic friend come over to try to start it for me but he is not too familiar with Mercedes Benz. He suggested it was the fuel pump relay and I purchased a new one but it did not make a difference. The vehicle cranks fine but just will not start. He sprayed some starting fluid down into the engine and it almost started but then went back to cranking. This is a great car if you know how to fix Mercedes or know someone who does. I have provided a lot of detailed photo's to show how solid this vehicle is. I am selling off all my toys due to moving overseas and wish I could keep this one! The interior is as nice as you will find. The seats look like no one has sat on them. No cracks on the dashboard. Carpets look like new as do the door panels. The top looks very nice and the plastic rear windows are clear with no tears!. Inside the trunk looks flawless. I lifted the spare tire compartment and removed the spare tire so you could see how perfect it looks. Very difficult to find one that is not rusty in this area! Mechanic put battery on charger and said it should hold a charge. The factory wheels look like new as well. I took a picture of the underneath of the car which is in incredible condition as you can see in the photo. I have pictures of the doorjambs and they are beautiful with no rust. On the driver side front fender there is a little rust that started where moisture was trapped behind the molding. There is a little on the driver side door starting by the molding as well. The rest of the car looks very nice. There are some light scratches by the convertible top and the trunk area where someone slid the hard top off at one time and scratched it. I got rid of the hard top a few years ago as I never planned to drive it in bad weather anyway and they are a pain to take off and store anyway! You could do some paint touch-ups and detail this vehicle and it would look very nice or do as I was planning to do and give it a nice paint job to make it look perfect like the $20,000 1985 380 sl's you see out there for sale. I have a clear Florida Title in my name that will be released when vehicle is fully paid for. International bidding is accepted and I have sold a few of my vehicles overseas so I can answer questions you may have about shipping overseas. The 1985's are very difficult to come by and here is your chance to get one at a great price. Good Luck and Happy Bidding. On Jan-13-13 at 16:05:51 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE* I had a friend over today and he is familiar with Mercedes Benz. He tried to start the car and smelled under the engine and said it has bad gas. He siphoned out the gas from the tank and it was old smelling stale gas. I cranked the engine and he sprayed starting fluid into the engine and the car ran for about 5 minutes on starting fluid. He would give it a squirt of starting fluid when it felt like it was going to stall and it would keep running. I am going to buy some fresh fuel tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks again for viewing my auction and Good Luck. On Jan-14-13 at 19:51:55 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE* Hello, Siphoned all the old fuel out of the tank. We put in 5 gallons of premium and tried a few times and once it ran for about 30 seconds on its own and my friend tried to adjust the lean/rich mixture screw through the little hole in the air cleaner. We tried it a few more times and it sputters and runs for 2 seconds. It is definately fuel related as it will run on starting fluid perfectly. My friend recommended to change the fuel filter as he thinks it may be dirty and not letting enough fuel through. She needs someone who understands on how to work on Mercedes Benz. If it were an old Chevrolet I would of had her running already:) Thanks for the interest in the auction.
