Vehicle Detail
I'm selling my 1998 BMW R1200C cruiser motorcycle because I'm not getting much use from it since I retired and it deserves a regular work-out rather than just fading away. I used it as a daily commuter and it never let me down. I have never needed any work done other than regular maintenance. It is a great bike and I have enjoyed it much since I bought it from the second owner. I'm always getting comments on this bike as it looks so unique. With 47k miles it is no spring chicken but looks just fine the way it is and could look absolutely great with some TLC. The motorcycle starts and runs great, good transmission and plenty of power. I'm including a service manual CD, some parts, and it comes with the manfacturer's tool kit. Since I'm selling it AS-IS and the winning bidder will probably not get to do an in-person inspection, I want to list all the flaws that I can think of -- FRONT: The front tire has around 20% tread left and needs replacing within a year. The wheel chrome is in good shape and the front brake rotor and pad seem fine. The down tubes are discolored, like a color coat is breaking down. There are rust spots on the front spring and the front shock chrome is chipped. The windshield needs polishing to become fully clear again, and there are some stress cracks around the four mounting bolts. I have reinforced the manufacture defect windscreen supports so they are no longer an issue. The mirrors and the engine cage have rust stains and the brake cylinder paint is faded. TOP/REAR: The blue leather seat is well worn and has a 3-inch crack exposing the foam support. The back rest/pillon seat is OK. Both the shift lever and the kick stand chrome has rust stains. The right turn indicator light is burned out but the turn signals function just fine. The rear tail light chrome is pitted as are the turn signals. The turn signal stems are metal rather than the original plastic and are very sturdy. The back tire needs replacing; it has perhaps 10% tread left. The back wheel chrome is OK. A spare rear tire is included in the purchase. RIGHT & LEFT SIDE: The brake lever assembly and the brake line protective spring (both sides) have rust spots in the chrome. Both sides muffler and muffler burn cover chrome is chipped or in poor condition. The classic exhaust pipe rattle when the motor is cold has not been fixed but goes away when the engine warms up. Both bags are scraped and the cover fits the body poorly. The right side bag handle is missing and has been replaced with a small chrome rack -- left side is original. Bag locks use the ignition key. Well, that's it. The paint everywhere is in good condition. A fine motorcycle that is very reliable but has been worked the way a bike should be worked. You can test ride it if you have a motorcycle license and a helmet. I have a clear title for the bike and the registration is good thru January 31, 2013. Payment accepted is cash or PayPal transfer where you cover the PayPal fee. Shipping is not included but I will cooperate with a moving company.
