Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a matching numbers 1968 El Camino SS396. Protecto-plate. Correct code Red exterior, black stripes and SS black interior. 3 speed column shift automatic. Born with no a/c. Pro tecto plate included. original owners manual. fully documented restoration with reciepts and photos. i have lowered the reserve. I Want to sell it so i can get something else. i don't need to sell it, i want to sell it. This car went through an extensive frame off rotisserie restoration in 2009. Over $44,600 was spent getting this vehicle to where it is today. I have a 1 inch bound notebook documenting its restoration with photos and all receipts. Pro-No short cuts. No questions. 1968 was the first year that GM/Chevy made the SS El Camino its own model and not just an option for the el camino lineup. This was the only year GM did this, making this car/year more interesting than other years. I have over video and 80 pictures showing the restoration process and how it sits today. Photos at: http://s1088.photobucket.com/albums/i325/jim65192/1968%20el%20camino/ video at: http://www.youtube.com/user/accobrajim/videos. http://youtube/24GkAWPIlG0 in my video, in error, i stated that the 68 SS 396 was not offered with a/c. only the SS396 with 375hp 4 speed was not offered with air. My year version was offered with a/c, but this car was not ordered from the factory with a/c. Documentation: Protecto-plate. original owners manual. 1 inch bound binder with photos of restoration process and all receipts/orders/documents. Interior: all new carpet, headliner, sun visors, seats and SS396 door panels. Dash is correct and original. New door panels included new window “fuzzy” . Correct radio. Glass: windshield has been replaced. All other glass is original and in acceptable condition. Window and vent window cranks work as they should. Brightwork: bumpers have been rechromed by Hanlon Plating of Virginia. They do the best work I feel. All other metal trim is in good condition or was replaced during restoration. Electrical: the entire car was rewired during restoration. Everything electrical works as it should . no problems. Exterior: the body and front clip was removed from the frame (see photos). The body was media blasted down completely . Professionally prepared and repainted the correct factory red paint code/with black stripe. The body is lazer straight. Amazing as this car has some pretty long runs of metal!. No waves or ripples. Very nice. The tailgate has one flaw as the tailgate straps gave one day with me sitting on it. Tail gate hit the chrome exhaust tips (bumpers were off to hanlon) causing a slight crease in the tailgate (see photo). Paint: paint is great. Well done and well prepared before spraying. Deep rich red paint and clear. No visible runs or flaws. Tailgate has the flaw mentioned above. Overall, with the frame off, the painting was done very well. Engine bay: Well done. The frame off makes it very nice. Well done. Paint and black out in the right places. New hood insulation. Hoses are new and correct. Paint in bay is correct and nice. very clean and correct. Undercarriage: super nice. Again…it’s a frame off. Really nice. Nothing left undone. Undercarriage is as nice at the painted topside. Suspension: all new bushings and replace worn parts. Car rides nice and is very solid. Frame off! Wheels: Original trim/beauty rings and center caps. Correct rally wheels/rims with BF Goodrich t/a radial \tires. 90-95% tread on tires. Motor: matching number big block 396 is a dream. Super strong. Starts and offs as it should. Tons of torque. Secondary carb kicks as it should. Transmission: 3 speed column shift automatic. smooth and nice. No issues. Will smoke the tires if needed. Drivability: this is a solid driver. I would take it with my daughters anywhere in this car. Starts, stops, and drives as it should. No issues. Extra: Car comes with custom rubber bed matt from year one still in the box. additional brand new front grill in wrapper too. Overall, if you are looking for a super nice original 1968 El Camino SS396, at any price, then this is it. It cost $46,000 documented dollars to get it where it is today if you did it yourself. The work has been done. come get it cheap. Good luck bidding....and please....if you bid...have your money in order just in case you mess up and win the auction. Ask your spouse, banker or mommy first, before bidding. thanks.. This car is being sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. i reserve the right to pull the car from auction at anytime for any reason.
