Vehicle Detail

This car comes with a limited warranty. Information provided below. The 1996-1997 diesel Passat likely has the longest driving range of any regular production, non-cutomized vehicle. Its EPA mileage rating is 38 city and 45 highway. The tank is 18.5 gallons (although it's been claimed that you can expand it to 20 somehow-- never done it). I have exceeded the listed 45mpg on numerous occasions, so that means this car can easily go over 800 miles on a tank. Hybrids have fuel tanks too small to pull that off, and most vehicles with enormous fuel tanks get far worse mileage. The 1996-1997 Passat TDI's have the planet's best combination of high mileage, longevity, and carrying capacity. Add that to how few were made (I have heard numbers from 900 to 1500), and that makes it extra special! A 1996 Passat TDI wagon, a rare, modern collectible that is up for sale! She drives great and has been regularly maintained with many service records to show. Timing belt and air conditioning compressor replaced in late 2012. Clutch was replaced at 112,500 miles, so it's quite young (and I am not, so I don't drive it hard). Has the two-way glass sunroof/moonroof combo and a Sanyo AM/FM/cassette/CD player. Paint is in good shape (no peeling or clearcoat loss) and there are no known signs of rust anywhere. Tires have at least 20,000 miles left on them; they are mounted on vintage 80's Audi (14 x 6) rims. Also has a U-Haul hitch receiver (I do not own anything to tow, but use a bike rack that goes in the receiver). Want to more: check out this website: .nicecarstdi. com They restore all the B-4 TDI's and sell them for over 13 grand. The good: new timing belt and AC, so you have years until you have to worry about them. Oil changed regularly with synthetic oil. It comes with the thick, custom-fitting rubber floormats and thick, custom-fitting rubber trunk liner. Stereo has cassette AND CD ability along with removable faceplate. Car has multiple speakers per stock specifications. The bad: you can operate all windows from each door, but the rear passenger door can't be operated from up front. The cruise control stopped working. The third brake light popped off, but it still works and is still included. The outside passenger-side rear view mirror took a hit (by my garage-- get it!), so it has cheap plastic vs. glass, but still has a good blind spot mirror on it). The trunk area has carried lots of stuff, so it looks less than perfect (passenger area is nice, however). These things were all too minor to care about, so I let them go. The big things, like the A/C, have been repaired as needed over the years. Problems? There is one. I purchased this car (on Ebay) in November of 2005 and received it in January 2006. I was told I am the second owner. The odometer read 87,xxx miles. Now it reads 138,250. I have lots of service records to show all that has been done over these 7 years. A friend recently got a carfax report for me and said that there was evidence of odometer tampering from BEFORE November 2005, which means that the first owner may have messed around with it. I don't know how one tampers with a digital odometer and, being a diesel, I am surprised he bothered-- the lifespan of a well-maintained diesel can be several hundred thousand miles, unlike gas cars. It appears that this car may have 30,000-50,000 miles more than the odometer reads, which is not much, but there it is. I did not get a carfax or similar report back in '05, but it didn't matter, since the Passat TDI's made in '96 (and '97) are still some of the best cars built. The car has been very reliable for me these past 7 years, but I am ready for something smaller with an automatic. THE BIG PICTURE is that this car has been in my hands for the last seven years, maintained by a German car specialist, with 54,000 miles put on in those 7 years and service records to confirm it. The timing belt and air conditioning compressor are new, and the clutch is young. Those are big ticket items and therefore don't have to be worried about for a long time. It is not burning oil, and the famous front-side passenger outside door handle was replaced last year. The transmission has never had problems, and those working on the car have never suggested anything is wrong. Based on what the car may have been through before I owned it, I have chosen to provide a warranty, because I believe in the car and know you can as well. If you pay the BUY IT NOW price, you get a 5-5-5 warranty, which means that for the first 5,000 miles, 5 months from purchase date (limited to whichever comes first), I will pay up to $500 USD grand total toward any repairs on the car that are NOT regular maintenance, due to accident/abuse, or road hazard. That means no oil changes or tires, but if a part of the car fails that really should not, you have some coverage toward the cost, instead of stress. My E-bay rating is excellent, as I stand behind what I sell. If you win the car for a lesser price, I will still give a warranty of 2-2-2, which means for 2 months, 2,000 miles (still limited to whichever occurs first), you can still have up to $200 credit toward the same type of aforementioned repairs. I doubt there will be anything to claim, but simply send a receipt (must be a licensed business, not a friend's driveway) showing the work, cost, mileage, and date. I will immediately send the money via paypal (and will cover the transaction fee). Once again, the warranty is based on mileage and time, whichever comes first being the final opportunity, and the money amount is a grand total, not a per-incident reimbursement. Disclaimer: this is a superb vehicle that changed the face of automotive history in 1996, as the Passat TDI is still the largest non-hybrid with the most mileage you can get! No other non-hybrid (or non-electric) can this kind of mileage while holding 5 people, each over 6 feet tall, along with a suitcase for each, still with capacity to tow and /or haul items on the roof! The newest Passat TDI's get less mileage! Still, it is a 17 year-old car that has been driven a lot. Proper maintenance does not guarantee perfection, and you will find normal signs of wear in the interior and little imperfections on parts of the paint. I have expressed, to the best of my knowledge, all known problems with the vehicle for sale. Therefore, this car comes as is where is, with no warranty expressed or implied in any way, shape, or form beyond anything already expressed. Ask all the questions you like BEFORE you bid. Questions and concerns you have after winning the auction will not be a basis for sale cancellation. If you bid, you are entering a legally binding contract that will be enforced. Shipping: buyer is responsible for obtaining the car at buyer's expense. If you live in the continental U.S., I can name a good shipper who I have used before. I believe they ship elsewhere as well, but I can't promise. I will assist you in setting this up if you cannot come in person. Payment: a non-refundable $500 USD payment by Paypal is required within 72 hours of auction's close. Remainder of sale price is due within 10 days. Nearly any version of payment is fine after the aforementioned 500, but car and title will not be released until funds are fully verified. Car must be collected within 30 days of sale or it will be understood that you no longer wish to have the car. Then it will be for sale again. Seller reserves right to terminate sale at any time during or after auction (and refund money if seller terminates). On Dec-16-12 at 15:36:05 PST, seller added the following information: On Jan-04-13 at 12:05:20 PST, seller added the following information: I can't get Ebay to allow me to add more pictures (for any price)! If you want interior shots, send a message with your personal Email address (since using the ebay message system to send photos also isn't workng), and I will send some to you. EMAIL ADDRESSES WILL NOT BE SHARED. Please note that the reserve price has now been met, so please do not ask for such pictures unless you are a SERIOUS bidder, for any bid made at this point has a genuine chance of being the winning bid, and you will be obliged to purchase the car.
