Vehicle Detail
I am the 2nd. owner (since 1973). The 1st owner was the Parts Mgr. at my Toyota dealership. The car has AC (it works, although' as poorly as all 1971 AC units worked). All seals on engine and transmission are tight; interior is in very good condition. It has new tires including the two in the boot (a custom doughnut and a full size tire on an original wheel). The engine was rebuilt to spec by Pilot Engines, Mt. Airy, NC on 6/11/2002 and the odometer at that time read 120593 – that was 3,650 miles ago; odometer now reads 125,500. I will answer all questions at my emailaddy of BOHAUSA@peoplepc.com The offering price is price $29,900 and I will only consider a trade for a 1980, or later, model Rolls-Royce or Bentley with Flying B on the bonnet - and only a Florida RR/Bent. Yet will not discount a trade for a Fiat Cinquecento (not the new models – and only the old one in flawless condition) plus $10,000. In Japan, Toyota Crowns are still being Mfg, they are Toyotas most prestigious model line, their most sophisticated and expensive model. In the USA you know the model as Lexus. In 1971 Crowns came in various configurations: 4Dr.; 2Dr. and wagon. In a letter to me dated 11/13/84, Toyota indicated that 3,934 and 5,500 of all combined Crown models were sold in the USA. One can surmise that very few of these were two door models. That could mean that less than 500 two doors Crown sedans were sold. This is a rare car, doubtful that 100 exist here in the US today. You will not see another and if you have, you did not know what it was – perhaps wishing you had one. Many older (1971) Crowns are still in operation in So. America, the Caribbean & Africa. In Hong Kong, “back in the day”, the 4Dr. units were taxi cabs and in So. America and the Carib., they were chauffeured “limos” for diplomats – ask any older person from those areas and they will recall their elite politicos riding in 4 door sedans. All the window scalping is stainless as is the windscreen wipers. This body style has the most unique and attractive looking curved lamps on the front bumpers, they serve not only for illumination but heighten the overall esthetics. Some 1971 MS75s have been registered as 1972 models, but the VIN tag is the telling proof – only 1971 model Crowns have the curved front bumper lamps. This Crown is Mfg 6/1971 and is SN 0000899. I have the window sticker. It sold for US$4,765.98 (one could have purchased a Cadillac for that amount in 1971). Identifying trim on the rear quarter that read “Crown” has been removed from both rear sides as well as “ToyoGlide” transmission from the boot deck lid (I have them and will not place them onto the car – I’ll let the purist out there do that. I’m not seeking to advertise anything like Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, etc. ). I have all records since my 1973 ownership as well as Shop Manuals with a few extra NOS trim parts – most of the trim on this car is stainless. The four black bezels that surround those interesting four oblong rear lamps, I painted them and have four brand new replacements in factory plastic for whoever wishes to replace the painted ones. Rear brake cylinders have just been redone as have brake shoes and carburetor rebuilt. What more can I tell you for if you know “Crown” you may have the answers to questions I haven’t answered. The car can be driven anywhere and at any time.
