Vehicle Detail

The Espada (named for the bullfighter's sword) was Ferruccio Lamborghini's favorite production automobile, and was commercially the most successful of the new auto maker's early models. However, only a little over 1200 units were produced for worldwide distribution during a 10 year production run (1968-1978). Its edgy looks drew many fans and detractors alike, but that was the Lamborghini way. The Espada was designed in the studios of Bertone and sported the famed Bizzarrini four liter V12 engine (Giotto Bizzarrini originally designed it to be used in a Formula One car for the Ferrari race team). The Espada has been called "the most dramatically-styled four-seater supercar ever built". It is an important historical link which allowed Lamborghini Automobilii to get a tenuous foothold into the world of production supercars and to eventually become the recognized champion of supercars with cutting edge styling and technology that it is today. It is a true four-seater Gran Turismo car capable of 165 MPH with twin wishbone suspension, 365 horsepower, 6 Weber carburetors, an aluminum engine block and 5 speed transmission, quad chain driven cams, 4 wheel disc brakes, and sumptuous leather interior. The Espada truly has a pivotal place in the development of the Lamborghini heritage. Car number 9222 is offered here for sale in an excellent, unrestored, low-mileage condition. It has undergone extensive mechanical enhancement to the engine and much of the suspension at Dearing Automotive, Inc. of Tucson, AZ. I will describe some of the work here. The engine was completely rebuilt to include new custom made forged alloy pistons, new exhaust and intake valves with new springs and guides, new rings, new main bearings, all new gaskets, custom fabricated twin MSD electronic ignition with new ignition wires, ceramic-coated headers, all new stainless steel exhaust system (sounds symphonic!), a new alloy radiator with intercooler and electric fan system (engine runs cool in the intense heat of the Southwest desert), new engine and differential mounts, polishing and cryogenic treatment of the gear assembly and crankshaft, new suspension bearings, new radial air conditioning compressor, new custom made (Mov-it Company of Germany) front brake calibers, both brake boosters rebuilt, etc. The car drives smooth, straight, and strong. The body shows no sign of accident damage or rust and, although it has not been cosmetically restored, it presents well. Needless to say this head-turner is a blast to drive and is ready for the road ahead. Here is your opportunity to own a supercar at a fraction of the funds invested, and of its true intrinsic and historical value. Good luck and happy bidding.
