1976 AMC Gremlin The Bi-Centennial Year for America 1976 AMC Gremlin - the name says it all doesnt it ? LOW RESERVE !! Not a factory V8 car (but if could be if you wanted to) It is a factory LEVI interior model - very rare -very cool. Obviously this whole car needs restoration, its been sitting for about 15 yrs. Factory paint still, so then dents you see are all there are, nothing to hide. We cleaned up under the hood some, installed a new fuel pump and hooked the fuel to a small container of fuel under the hood and it fired right up !! Its not pretty, but it runs pretty good. I drove it around the parking lot, trans feels good, brakes need a little work. It stops okay, but brakes prob could use a little more work. Tires are shot. No smoke or wierd noises from the engine itself. Odometer shows 107k which could easily be original. Front end hit isnt as bad as it looks, youll see what I mean when you view all the pics below. DRIVETRAIN: AMCs straight six looks at home under the hood. 258 ci motor runs better then it looks. Does have an exhaust leak and smells somewhat like pack rat droppings.A tune up is probably at the top of the list of things to do. Also I suggest draining all the fuel in the gastank, and then re connect it to the new fuel pump. (if I have time, Ill attack it this week) This car still has the factory AMC 14" Alloy Wheels which look great and are quite rare. Car also has factory AC all still intact PS and PDB too. EXTERIOR: no rust holes on the body as you would expect from an ArizonA car, and most of the paint looks original, yet very faded. The body parts it needs are readily available online etc. Glass all looks okay, lock missing for the rear hatch glass. INTERIOR: Arizona sun has done its damage over the years but Ive seen worse. Driver seat is the worst part, but really the whole interior needs to be redone for a driver. At least the LEVI material is available, so that makes the restoration a little easier. A new carpet kit and redo the seats would make a huge impact in the how this car looks. Didnt check all the buttons and switches or radio, but I can if you want me to, just email me. Factory AM/FM radio too. Floors are solid like most Az cars around here. Do a full restoration on it or make it a nice driver and only restore the big obvious stuff. Either way, Gremlin Values are going up every year and this yr and model are at the top of the collector list. This Gremlin is almost a Az barn find people on the eastcoast only wish they could find in their backyard, check out the lack of rust found in normal areas you may expect to see it. People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, it still beats paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end. Also, if you buy a car thats been "restored", who knows what sort of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating.
