Vehicle Detail

1956 Packard Clipper Custom. There were three models, the Super, Deluxe, and Custom. The Custom was the higher of the horsepower. 352c.i. motor with 275 hp as opposed to 240 hp in the deluxe and super models. This Packard has had the driver front fender replaced at some time and the model badge on it is "Deluxe" but the original passenger side and dash read "Custom," and verified by the numbers. Bought this from a gentleman who got it off of his aunt, the original owner. He drove it through the 1970's and eventually put it up on blocks in his yard and covered it. He started it once a month until the last few years where it just sat. I bought it, hauled it to my shop. I got it running, shifting, and moving, but the brakes still need to be gone through. It just barely stops with the e-brake. Runs so smooth, hard to believe it sat for so long. Carb may still need a going through, and I run it off of a gas can. The gas tank and lines may need to be cleaned out. I buffed out the faded paint, and tore out what was left of the carpet. I was planning to keep this for years and enjoy it with the family, hurts to let this go but I need the cash right now for my business. (restoring / customizing cars and motorcycles.) (if you purchase this and want to pay me to work on it to get it where you want it, that can be arranged at $40 per hour at my shop) This has the original auto leveling torsion bar suspension. It is not working right now which is why it sits so low in the rear. I like this look and was going to hook up a three way switch to be able to provide any height I want with the switch instead of it being automatic when working properly. (and electric motor in the center of the frame controls the twist of the torsion bars) Overall nice shape, no rust in trunk or spare tire well, some rust in rockers, couple tiny holes in floorboards. Some dings and dents throughout, the bigger being on the fin where a tree limb fell on it in the guy's yard I bought it from. (also small dent on trunk) Tires are old, some cracking. Spare is tube tire and does not hold air. Tube is rotted. Driver door glass cracked. Other windows are good. door panels peeling away at bottom of doors, seats have some tears, foam inside is brittle and crusty. Extra parts go with it. All new brake cylinders, brake shoes, front kingpin replacements, timing chain, engine gasket set. Also missing badges are with it. The original dealer badge for trunk, and the P for Packard on rear quarter. Also have the long chrome strip missing on the rear quarter, but it will need straightening. Missing the tiny trim piece for strip by door. About an inch long. The key bezel on dash is here but ears are broken, so key switch is hanging down below dash. Replacements on ebay run about 75 to 90 bucks. Front bumper has dent, hole in it. See photo. Also, one headlight bezel is cracked. Headliner and chrome bows are nice. Deposit of $500 due within 48 hours of auction close. Remainder due within one week of auction close. Car can be stored up to two weeks of auction close. Every day after is $35 per day. Very original unmolested rare model packard. Much cooler then the chevy shoeboxes in my opinion, and the tailights are to die for. Registration is current, with 56 plates. If out of state buyer gets this, I will keep the plates. If you are in california, you can have them. Any other questions, please ask. Email, call, or come look. Located about an hour north of Hollywood, right of the I-5 in Lebec, CA. I have not driven very fast, just around shop, due to the almost no brake situation. Not claiming that the motor and trans are great. They seem good so far, but cannot promise a long life. There are a few other dings and dents, bottom of one door where the paint is swiped, and driver fender, and lower area swiped on rear quarter. On Nov-19-12 at 12:20:35 PST, seller added the following information: the load leveling system... checked the fuses, they are good. One of the solenoids does not seem to work, and not sure about the sensors. I bypassed the solenoid with a jumper wire and got the car level again. I want too high, then after the right amount of seconds, it leveled down to wear it should all by itself, so its close to working right. At least its level now, you can load it easy. Here are some more photos Here Here is a video of the engine running. Here On Nov-19-12 at 12:22:52 PST, seller added the following information: forgive the spelling errors, should have read my revisions before posting... geez, anyway, call with any questions, thanks! On Nov-21-12 at 17:37:38 PST, seller added the following information: Reserve is $2,500.
