I WON'T SAY THIS IS THE BEST 300D IN THE COUNTRY BUT YOU'D BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND A BETTER ONE. WHEN YOU DRIVE AND LOOK AT THIS VEHICLE YOU'LL FEEL LIKE YOU'RE IN 1985 AGAIN. THE PICTURES DON'T DO IT JUSTICE. IT LOOKS AND FEELS EVEN BETTER WHEN YOU SEE IT IN PERSON. EVERYONE KNOWS THE REPUTATION OF THESE CARS AND HOW LONG THEY WILL LAST SO I WON'T GO INTO THAT. I'M ONLY THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IMPECCABLY MAINTAINED. IT WAS ALWAYS GARAGE KEPT. THE ORIGINAL PAINT AND CLEAR COAT IS STILL PRISTINE AND SHINES LIKE NEW. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA SINCE IT WAS NEW AND THERE IS NOT ONE SPECK OF RUST ANY WHERE. . . PERIOD. ALL THE STAINLESS TRIM STILL SHINES LIKE NEW AND HAS NO SCRATCHES OR DENTS. THE BUMPERS SHINE LIKE NEW. ALL THE GLASS IS ORIGINAL AND NOT SCRATCHED AT ALL. THE CHROME RIMS STILL SHINE LIKE NEW. ALL THE RUBBER AND WEATHERSTRIPPING IS ORIGINAL, FLEXIBLE AND LOOKS GOOD. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THE INTERIOR IS FLAWLESS AND LOOKS NEW. EVEN THE VINYL AROUND THE DOOR/WINDOW FRAMES WHICH USUALLY GETS WRINKLY AND DEFORMED IS IN GREAT SHAPE. AND THE FELT AROUND THE DOOR OPENINGS WHICH USUALLY GETS ALL TORN AND RAGGED IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. THE DASH IS PERFECT AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO CRACKS. THE SEATS HAVE NO RIPS, SHOW NO WEAR AND ARE STILL NICE AND FIRM TO SIT IN. THE ONLY DEFECT ON THE INTERIOR IS THE AREA AROUND THE INTERIOR LIGHT (BY THE REAR VIEW MIRROR) DOESN'T FIT EXACTLY RIGHT. ANY THING THAT EVER MALFUNCTION ON THIS CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY ATTENDED TO AND REPAIRED BY THE MERCEDES DEALER. EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD AND I MEAN EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE AUTO VACUUM DOOR LOCKS--AUTO VACUUM GAS DOOR LOCK--AUTO VACUUM TRUNK LOCK--THE AUTO ANTENNA--THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE SUN ROOF. THESE ITEMS COMMONLY ARE NO LONGER WORKING ON THESE VEHICLES. THE ONLY THING ON THE VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T WORK IS THE CLOCK AND THAT WASN'T REPAIRED BECAUSE THE STEREO (WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT ISN'T ORIGINAL) HAS A CLOCK. THE A/C HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO THE MODERN R134 REFRIGERANT AND BLOWS ICE COLD. THE TIRES, BATTERY, FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS AND C/V SHAFTS ARE BRAND NEW. I WAS TOLD BY THE COUPLE WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THAT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WERE REBUILT AT ABOUT 180K. I DON'T KNOW THE EXTENT OF THE WORK BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW. IT WAS DONE BEFORE THE COUPLE EVEN MET SO THE HUSBAND WOULDN'T KNOW. BUT THE YOUNG WOMAN SAID HER DAD HAD THE WORK DONE AT THAT TIME AND IT COST HIM OVER $6000. I BELIEVED HER BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IN SUCH PRISTINE CONDITION. IT RUNS PERFECT, STARTS RIGHT UP ON THE FIRST CRANK EVERY TIME EVEN IN COLD WEATHER AND DOESN'T SMOKE AT ALL EVEN ON START UP. AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS NICE AND FIRM LIKE IT SHOULD. PLUS I DID A COMPRESSION TEST AND THE NUMBERS FOR ALL CYLINDERS ARE RIGHT AROUND 380 TO 400 PSI WHICH IS AT THE TOP OF THE EXPECTED RANGE. THE ODOMETER SAYS 230K WHICH IS ANOTHER REASON I BELIEVED HER . I WOULD THINK EVEN A CAR THAT WAS MAINTAINED AS IMPECCABLY AS THIS ONE WOULD STILL SHOW SOME MECHANICAL DEPRECIATION WITH THAT MANY MILES BUT IT DOESN'T. IT REALLY RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE A NEW CAR. SO I BELIEVE THE DRIVE TRAIN HAS ABOUT 50K ON IT. I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THE ONLY REASON I'M SELLING THIS VEHICLE IS BECAUSE IT'S TOO NICE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR SOME YEARS AGO FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S DAUGHTER WITH THE INTENT OF CONVERTING IT TO A VEGGIE OIL BURNER. BUT I'M A CAR COLLECTOR WITH OTHER CLASSIC VEHICLES AND JUST CAN'T BRING MYSELF MODIFY SUCH A PRISTINE WELL PRESERVED VEHICLE. I COULD ROLL THE ODOMETER BACK TO UNDER 100K LIKE ALL THE OTHERS BEING SOLD ON E-BAY AND NOBODY WOULD SUSPECT A THING, BUT I LOOK AT THE MILEAGE ON THIS CAR AS A BADGE OF HONOR. ANY CAR WITH OVER 200K THAT IS STILL THIS NICE HAD TO HAVE BEEN PAMPERED TO THE MAX AND IT SHOWS. WHO EVER GETS THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. I WILL BE HAPPY TO HAVE IT INSPECTED AT ANY MERCEDES DEALER IN THE AREA AT BUYER'S EXPENSE. BEFORE ANYBODY ASKS, I DON'T HAVE ANY OF THE SERVICE RECORDS ON THE VEHICLE. THE DAUGHTER WHO INHERITED IT FROM HER FATHER, WHO WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER, EITHER DIDN'T GET THE RECORDS OR DIDN'T KEEP THEM. BY THE WAY, SHE SOLD IT TO ME ONLY MONTHS AFTER GETTING IT BECAUSE SHE ALREADY HAD TWO OTHER VEHICLES AND DIDN'T NEED ANOTHER. THAT'S WHY I CONSIDER MYSELF THE SECOND OWNER. I ONLY ASK THAT IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO CONVERT IT TO A VEGGIE CAR OR MAKE ANY OTHER MODIFICATIONS , PLEASE DON'T TELL ME. IF I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO DO THAT I WON'T SELL IT TO YOU. THIS CAR IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION, BUT IT IS 27 YEARS OLD AND DOES HAVE A FEW MINOR FLAWS. I WILL BE COMPLETELY HONEST AND POINT THOSE OUT NOW. THERE ARE SOME SMALL ROCK CHIPS OUT OF THE PAINT ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD BUT IT'S NO MORE THEN TO BE EXPECTED WITH A DAILY DRIVER CAR THIS OLD. I TOOK PICTURES OF THAT BUT THE CHIPS DIDN'T SHOW UP. WHEN THE CAR WAS 2 DAYS OLD SOMEONE KEYED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS. IT DIDN'T ACTUALLY SCRATCH THE PAINT BUT IT DID MAR THE CLEAR COAT. IT'S NOT VERY NOTICEABLE UNLESS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IT BUT IT IS THERE. I TRIED TAKING A PICTURE OF IT BUT IT DOESN'T SHOW UP EITHER. I ALREADY MENTIONED THE AREA AROUND THE INSIDE LIGHT BY THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THE TOP OF THE BACK SEAT IS A LITTLE FADED FROM THE LIMITED TIME THIS CAR DID SPEND IN THE SUN. AND THERE IS A SMALL OIL LEAK. I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT SOMETIMES IT LEAKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T, BUT THE OIL LEVEL IS NEVER LOW IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE DRIVE TRAIN IS IN GREAT SHAPE AS WELL. THE MOTOR STARTS RIGHT UP EVERY TIME ON THE FIRST CRANK AND RUNS FLAWLESSLY. YOU CAN CRUISE COMFORTABLY AT 75 MPH AND STILL GET 38 MPG. THE ENGINE HAS NEVER NEEDED ANY MAJOR REPAIRS, JUST THE ROUTINE VALVE ADJUSTMENTS, BELT CHANGES AND OIL CHANGES. THE TRANSMISSION FUNCTIONS AND SHIFTS JUST AS IT DID IN 1985 ALSO. THE DIFFERENTIAL MAKES NO NOISE. THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION ON THIS BABY IS VERY TIGHT ALSO. THE BALL JOINTS AND STEERING KNUCKLES ARE EXTREMELY TIGHT. I SUSPECT THEY WERE REPLACED AT ONE TIME BUT I CAN'T CONFIRM THAT. I ONLY KNOW THEY ARE IN GREAT SHAPE RIGHT NOW. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN OR SUSPENTION ON THIS CAR.
