Vehicle Detail

howardj27 Store Offered here is a VERY RARE FIRST-YEAR 1986 Suzuki GSX-R in VERY GOOD, VERY ORIGINAL RUNNING condition! This is IT, THE bike that started it all, the ORIGINAL replica racer, iconic progenitor of every sport bike and crotch rocket since, the bike that birthed untold generations of squids! Before you Suzuki purists jump on me and tell me that 1985 was the first year for the GIXXER, OK fine, but 1986 was the year the model was first introduced in the US, and this is a US market example... This one is remarkably original and in EXCELLENT running condition - Original frame & engine, original plastics, it even has the STOCK airbox and COMPLETE STOCK EXHAUST system with factory can & heat shield, which is pretty much unheard of for ANY GSXR, much less one that has been around now for 26 years! So many of these original Gixxers were either raced into oblivion or "streetfightered" into some unrecognizable naked bike mess with rattle can matt black paint, it is INCREDIBLY hard to find one in such original UNMOLESTED condition! Other than the seat cowl (missing), all of the plastics are original and overall in very good condition as shown in the photos below - a small crack or two here and there and some hydraulic fluid damage on the "SUZUKI" decal on the lower fairing left side, but otherwise really nice - as good an original set of 1986 plastics as you could ever hope to find! The mirrors (obviously), rear turn signals & tinted windscreen are not original, along with some of the fairing fasteners, but to my (untrained) eyes, that's it, those are the only things I can spot that have been changed over the years... Paintwork overall is very good, steel gas tank does have a 5" crease on the right side that I tried (with limited success) to show in the photos (this is really the only significant cosmetic flaw on the bike), some tiny bubbling around the filler cap and a small chip in front of the "R" on the left side, otherwise the tank looks great. The blue upper fairing has a couple of small cracks, the lower fairing has a scrape on the edge of the vent on the right, and there is some damage on the bottom edge of the belly pan on the right side... Take a careful look at all of the photos below and and ask yourself when was the last time you saw a 1986 GSXR is such nice original condition! That covers the cosmetics, now on to the mechanical condition of this beauty... Odometer shows 30,600 miles (and counting) so she is no garage queen, but still that has to be considered relatively low mileage for a 26 year old bike, and with regular oil changes these engines are known to be pretty much indestructible. The carburetors have been synched, oil is fresh, she fires right up right away with a little choke when cold, the second you hit the button when warm... Some noise from the cam chain when the engine is cold, quiets down when warm... NO other unusual engine noises, NO smoke, engine performs flawlessly up & down the rev range and wow does this engine love to REV! The tach does not even register below 3,000 RPM! Clutch, transmission, brakes and all electrics work great, this bike is WAAAAYYYYYY FUN, no doubt about it! As for the tires, they are brand new Bridgestone Battlax BT45's, and I mean literally BRAND NEW - they have seen less than 100 miles, the mold nubbies are still there! This bike needs nothing in order to be ridden (and ridden HARD if you are so inclined!) but like any "vintage" motorcycle, there are always things to do if you want to spend some quality time with it in the garage - if I was going to keep it, I would give some attention to the gearshift pedal linkage (it's a little sloppy), flush the brake fluid and perhaps install new brake pads up front (the current pads are still good, and the brakes work amazingly well, but the lever travel is more than I like)... That's it, I really can't think of anything else that it needs at this point - other than a new owner who can ride it more than I have! Sold with clean California title in my name, registered through April 2013, and as a bonus the winning bidder will also get a genuine Suzuki Factory Workshop Manual!!! SOLD HERE WITH LOW RESERVE!!! Payment by Paypal, Paypal eCheck, bank transfer or email me for other Ebay-approved payment options. LOCAL PICK-UP IN SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA PREFERRED! However I will work with winning bidder to arrange shipping by trucking company or private party of your choice... LOW COST international shipping can also be arranged - email me to discuss options! On Nov-14-12 at 09:16:44 PST, seller added the following information: ALL INTERESTED BIDDERS PLEASE NOTE: It has been pointed out to me by some knowledgeable Ebayers that the upper fairing on my GSXR has probably been repainted or replaced at some point in the past, and the lower fairing or belly pan is from a 1986 GSXR 1100. My apologies for the oversights/errors! The bike came to me just as you see it in the photos, and I am (obviously) not even close to being any kind of "expert" on early GIXXERS, at least not enough of one to notice these discrepancies... It is still a very nice and original 86 750, just not quite as original as I thought...
