Vehicle Detail

This is a solid 1971 MGB GT with the 1.8 Liter dual SU carbureted motor. It is an aftermarket blue over the original black vinyl and gray carpet. Mechanically the car is very good, with a strong motor that fires up right away, and a leak free transmission. I bought this car as a light restoration project in 2009 and have put only a few hundred miles on it since then, but we just had our first child, so I have no time or money for car projects. I bought the car on eBay from an estate sale in Northern California, and it has been in TX since, so it hasn't seen salty roads. When I got the car I replaced the fuel pump and the batteries. The stock setup is a twin 6V battery combination and I put in a modern single 12V battery and new cable and now it starts reliably, and with the new fuel pump and a new carb y-pipe breather tube it runs great. The motor, transmission, and clutch work great on this car. I also replaced the clutch slave cylinder and the pedal pads so it shifts as it should. I replaced the old plastic shift knob with a nice wooden one with an MG logo. If you're used to sloppy modern gearboxes you'll love the rifle-bolt feel of this shifter. It's so mechanical and precise. The original ignition cylinder and keylock failed so I replaced that with a newer, much stronger style unit with new keys and a leather MG keyring. The biggest needs the car has are cosmetic. The car was repainted poorly by a previous owner and you can see the original yellow paint where the blue is peeling in a few places. It's peeling around the hood vents, in the engine bay, and in a couple of spots on the rear quarter panels. If I were keeping the car I would repaint it and replace the carpets. Otherwise, the needs, mechanical and cosmetic, are pretty minor. There are two cracks in the dash, the right side mirror frame is missing, and the rear badges are incomplete. But, the body is straight apart from a single dimple in the hood where someone closed the hood too firmly, but the paint isn't cracked. The glass is all good and the vinyl seats are clean and untorn. The lights, signals, radio, horn, etc. all work properly. The engine starts easily, runs well, and does not smoke. There is no apparent rust underneath and the muffler appears to be pretty recent. See the underside shots I included. The car comes with a box of spare parts like points, electrical switches, gaskets and trim strips, and a chrome body strip still in the wrapper. It also comes with two repair and rebuild manuals to help you maintain this car. These are in new condition and worth over $50 alone. The car starts, runs, and drives properly, but I have not driven it any distance, so I would recommend shipping or trailering this car to its new home. The tires are inflated and hold air and have plenty of tread, but they do have some cracking due to age and dryness. I am not an MG expert, but I'm a car guy and I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about the car. I have more pictures and can send them to you by e-mail. The car will sell with a fresh oil change and brake flush as well. I can offer test drives or arrange a PPI for independent shops local to Fort Worth, TX if you desire. This is a solid car with some cosmetic needs that could be a good fun driver for cheap, or a nice car with a modest investment in paint, etc. It's a hoot to drive and you get waves and smiles wherever you go, so don't hesitate to bid and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Will
