Vehicle Detail
Listed for sale by Coventry Garage LLC is a 1976 (built in 1991) AUSTIN MINI COOPER with its original engine and drive train THAT IS IN WONDERFUL CONDITION. This 1991 Mini Cooper is one of the finest examples you will find. The car is left-hand drive because it was imported into Canada. This car was imported from Canada to the USA in September 2002 and purchased by Ed B. in May 2005. The previous owner, Ed, owned this car for 7 years here in Pittsburgh, Pa. so it is presently Pennsylvania inspected and has a clear Pennsylvania title as a 1976 Mini Cooper. The car has its original 4 cylinder 1275 CC engine, 4 speed manual transmission, single SU carburetor, FIVE MINILITE STYLE 12” WHEELS, 4 matching 145/70/12” tires with very good tread (about 60% tread), black wheel arch flares, 4 front driving lights, rear fog light, updated radio and speakers, very nice interior. THIS CAR HAS ONLY 47500 MILES ON IT FROM NEW!!! The odometer now reads 76700km. This car runs, drives, shifts and brakes very nicely. I have driven it about 50 miles and had it up to 70 MPH with no issues. I would like to explain why my listing is for a “1976 Mini Cooper” when it was actually built in 1991 by Rover. The original (or classic) Minis were built from 1959 thru model year 2000 by various British vehicle manufacturers with Rover the final one. To legally import a vehicle into the US, it has to meet the federal requirements in place for that vehicle’s model year. Since the classic Mini does not comply with all the U.S. federal mandates for model year 1991 (federal impact bumpers are one example of non-compliance), it was re-VIN’d (in Europe) to a 1976 Austin Morris Mini so it could legally be imported here. (Hint: MOST of the auctions for classic Minis on eBay that say they were ‘re-bodied’, have been “updated to” 1991 specs, have all the ‘latest upgrades’, etc., are really re-VIN’d newer models) CAR# XL2S1N329105A, Body# B20S 912266A, Engine# 12A2AG01209923, trunk lid closing latch number is 27-91( which supposedly shows the car was built in the 27th week of 1991). The Mini is a small economy car that was made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960s, and its space-saving front-wheel drive layout – allowing 80 per cent of the area of the car's floor pan to be used for passengers and luggage – influenced a generation of car makers. The vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent of its German contemporary the Volkswagen Beetle, which enjoyed similar popularity in North America. In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T. The current (fall 2012) issue of “Classic Motorsports” magazine rates this car as one of the most influential cars of the 50’s as the revolutionary front wheel drive design dates back to 1959. We have just changed the motor oil and filter and checked the car over and found nothing wrong with this car. We feel that this car could be driven anywhere. This car has a small bit of rust forming at the bottom of the passenger door along the outside edge- it is very hard to see and is bubbling and has not broken the paint work. The driver’s side window has some scratches in the glass (not enough scratches that I would change the window) but a brand new window comes with the car. This car is red, white roof and white “John Cooper” signed racing stripes; looks very neat! If there is an area that you want to see more photos of, we have 90 photos of this car and can send them on to you; just ask! The interior on this car is in EXCELLENT CONDITION! Work performed by previous owner who imported the car, with receipts for all parts from “Mini Mania” that will go to any new owner: December 2002; new “Stage One” kit for 1275 Mini, HIF 44 Carb, Cooper free flow header 1.75 OD outlet, “BBC” HIF 6 needle, RC 40 Exhaust system. January 2003: new NGK platinum spark plugs, spark plug wire set Rover competition 8MM set, air horns, new MINI carpet mats black with red trim. March 2003: stainless coil cover, new crank case breather, new K & N Filter Cone HIF6. April 2003: car taken to McB Autosports in Bridgeville, Pa. at 74062 km; porting of intake to head, new exhaust valves, new intake valve guides, new exhaust valve guides, valve seals, head set, spring keepers, new antifreeze. (This car now has 76515 km on the working odometer, or 47440 miles. All the above engine work was performed just 1600 miles ago in April 2003). July 2003: new stainless wiper arms, new Rally Lamp bar in black, new Black rally lamps/ two pairs driving lights ($200.00) August 2003: alloy gear shift knob, rebuilt SU HIF6/44 carb. ($200.00), new silver annodised door handle set for doors/ windows / pulls, chrome dash pot cover. Ed B. bought this car in May 2005. As you can see, the two previous American owners used this car very little. Only 1600 miles since 2003. We bought this car from Ed B. just last month. We have tried to describe this car as accurately as possible; we have tried to address all the cars good and bad features in this advertisement. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT this car is now 21 years old. If you come out to see this beautiful 1991 (titled 1976) MINI we can put the car up on our lift for you so you can view the car from underneath. Both Gary and I (Dan) are members of the Jaguar Clubs of North America and of our local Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh- we are “car guys”. If you like, we can give you names of local British restorers/mechanics that you can contract with to assess this Mini for you (at your expense). If you fly into Pittsburgh, we can pick you up at the Pittsburgh International Airport. All shipping arrangements and expenses will be paid by the buyer. The car will not be shipped until all funds clear our bank. This car is for sale locally so we reserve the right to end auction at any time. We can offer this car at such a reasonable price because we are a very small, Pennsylvania licensed, used car dealership. We specialize in foreign/exotic/British sports cars. Please phone Dan at 412-680-1639 to arrange to see and drive this legendary British sports car. If you want to see more photos, just write me an e-mail and I can attach more detailed photos. We are located at 1505 Fifth Ave., McKeesport, PA. 15132 USA (just outside Pittsburgh, PA.) and we are open by appointment only. THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING OUR CAR! On Oct-26-12 at 07:57:40 PDT, seller added the following information: AFTER questions about the paint I have tried several times to add this to my description: As far as we can tell, and as far as the previous owner knew, all the paint on this car is the original factory applied paint. We have found no evidence, either by overspray or color deviation in the trunk or under the hood/bonnet, that any of the paint is different or changed. DanOn Oct-26-12 at 13:28:52 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been asked if this car could be imported into California. I do not know the smog/emissions rules for California, but I do know that since the car is titled as a 1976 Mini, it meets the importation regulations in place in the USA for the 1976 model year. PLEASE ask your local inspection station whether this car would pass your states emission and safety regulations BEFORE you purchase the car. We have very strict regs here in Pa. and this car is safety inspected and titled here in Pa. Thanks, Dan
