Rare 1993 Mercedes Benz 500GE selling for no reserve... Ebay does recognize the vin since its a genuine 1993 Mercedes Benz 500GE Euro model. One of the most recognizable 4 x4 classics on the road. This Mercedes Benz is one of the best of the best built G wagons! Imagine it has the same body as todays 2012 G wagons. The 500GE Mercedes Benz Geländewagen was a european model that was never brought to the USA. It was available only in Europe and only 500 limited models were sold. Most were sold in the violet color and a handful of the special Brillant silver models were available. This car is completely stock and legally registered in California for over 9 years. Imported by Keiser Motors in 2002. Documented with State of California BAR sticker for smog emissions compliancy and federalization by G & K auto conversions in Santa Ana California. Clean California registration and title comes with this 500GE. It comes standard with a 5.0L V8 M117 Mercedes power plant. It has a standard automatic transmission. They came equipped with 2 full lockers for center and rear differential lockers for off road use. The limited edition 500 GE was never officially offered to the public. MB marketing folks doubted that there was a market for a 200,000 Deutschmark 4x4. So, instead of printing brochures etc and offering it to a large audience MB salesmen in Germany casually told owners of S-Class and G-Class about the prospect of a V8 240HP luxury version of the G. Within one year they signed close to 500 contracts - without anyone ever seeing pictures or a vehicle on display. Even with all the doubt about a 500 GE success - at least some MB people had enough foresight to make engines for the 500 GE available. They had stored 500 V-8 engines in crates at the AMG facility to be used for the 500 GE. Reason for this "store now - build later" game was that the V-8 engines used in 1992/1993 were different from the previously used 2 valve engines and would not fit in the G's engine bay. Services have been performed at authorized Mercedes Benz Dealer Park Avenue Mercedes in Palo Alto Ca. Other services have been done by Independent Mercedes shop in San Mateo Ca. The motor was replaced at 100k miles with the same motor. Work was performed at the Mercedes Benz dealer. Engine replacement number is displayed under hood with a decal. Other recent work performed in the last two months: New Front brake rotors and pads, flush brake fluid, new power steering belt, replaced both valve cover gaskets, new hood shock, spark plugs and spark plug wire set oem mbz, new window switch, clear signal markers, oil change and smog check. A/C blows ice cold. Radio has been replaced with cd player with ipod connector. Car runs and drives great. It has a broken antenna that does not go up and down but gets good reception. Sometimes has a bit of hard start at times but always starts. Drivers ac vent is not completely flush in dash. All electronics are working - lights, horn, speedo, odometer, windows, sunroof, seats, radio. Body has some small scratches pictured below. Right rear window not working.
