Vehicle Detail

Listed for sale by Coventry Garage LLC is a 1972 DATSUN 240Z Coupe with its original engine and drive train THAT IS IN WONDERFUL CONDITION. This car has only 50477 actual miles on it from new. We have the service and maintenance records back to May 1989 when the car was purchased by the last owner with 35554 miles on it. WE ARE ASKING A VERY REASONABLE $8500.00 for this car. Originally a TEXAS car when new. The previous owner, Ernie, had this car since May 1989 or about 23 years! He is now a bit over eighty years old and was selling off his collection when we found this Datsun 240Z here in Pittsburgh PA. Ernie bought this car in Conroe Texas in May 1989 and had his son, Randy, drive the car to Pittsburgh. According to Ernie, this Datsun 240Z was originally yellow from the factory but was repainted in glossy black around 1988. The interior is original black and is in great shape. This car looks great and runs great. We just had four brand new American Racing Outlaw II 14” wheels and four brand new tires installed on this car. THIS IS A MATCHING NUMBERS CAR WITH THE ORIGINAL IN LINE 6 CYLINDER MOTOR AND 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. 240Z VIN# HLS3084346 The exterior paint is in wonderful condition although not perfect. It does have a few imperfections / stone chips on the hood and a few bubbles in front of the rear wheels but is very presentable and VERY glossy as is. There are also some very small dirt specks in the paint on the rear deck lid. There are two stone chips in the front windshield. The interior is in great condition- the car has bucket seats, a console and matching black lap belts. The carpets are good, the windows wind easily and all glass is in good shape. The chrome looks very nice. The car had standard factory wheel covers on really old tires so we just had the 4 new wheels and tires installed- but the steel wheels and factory hub caps will go with the car. The transmission shifts very nicely and the engine starts right up and runs smoothly. The car is fitted with air conditioning which was serviced last summer and still works. The aftermarket radio works as does the power antennae. This car has the standard front disc and rear drum brakes that were just gone over and adjusted to insure that they are working correctly. Previous owner, Ernie, told me that he never had to have the engine rebuilt but he did have the rear end changed and the transmission seals and clutch redone. Both the engine and transmission run and shift as they should with no problems. Ernie gave us an entire folder of parts and labor receipts showing all he did to the car. All of these documents will go to the new owner. Receipts show that the following were purchased for this car (oldest to newest receipts): May 1989, new tires and oil change in Texas 35554 miles June 1989, new front brake hoses 37444 miles Jan 1990, replace door seals / gaskets May 1990, state inspection, change oil, 39817 miles May 1991, state inspection, 41291 miles April 1991 bumpers re-chromed, fuel sending unit and breather, new emblems and side strips, replace right door handle May 1992, state inspection, oil and filter changed, 42005 miles May 7, 1993 state inspection, 43041 miles July 1993, new transmission bearings, crank seal, slave cylinder, CLUTCH, CLUTCH DISC, RESURFACE FLYWHEEL, new tranny gear oil (about $1000.00) 43317 miles May 24, 1994 state inspection, 43674 miles May 4, 1995 state inspection, 44362 miles June 26, 1996, replace left rear wheel cylinder, state inspection, 44925 miles June 12, 1997, state inspection, replace A/C Freon, 45099 miles August 4, 1997, new right rear wheel cylinder Feb. 9, 1998, changed clock to a quartz conversion clock June 14, 1998, state inspection, 45502 miles May 27, 1999, state inspection, 45754 miles June 29, 2000, state inspection, oil change, 46057 miles July 31, 2000, replace heater core and charge A/C April 27, 2001 oil change, 46527 miles August 3, 2001, state inspection, 46886 miles August 23, 2001, new A/C compressor, fittings, filter dryer, new battery August 7, 2002, state inspection, 47753 miles September 16, 2003, state inspection, new front brake pads, 48598 miles September 15, 2004, state inspection, 48669 miles Sept. 22, 2004, new front struts, new starter installed August 2005, state inspection, 48792 miles August 15, 2006, state inspection, 49535 miles March 27, 2007, replace rear differential assembly with another used piece, add synthetic gear lube, 49656 miles April 17, 2007, state inspection and oil change, 49666 miles Sometime in 2008 it looks like Ernie opted for an antique license plate- meaning no more yearly state inspections August 17, 2009, re-fit A/C system from R-12 to R 134A, 50065 miles August 28, 2009, new battery, September 1, 2009, replace exhaust and intake manifold gaskets and replace two braken studs, 50084 miles August 30, 2012- we buy car from Ernie with 50433 miles on the car. This car was inspected every year until Ernie got an antique plate for the car around 2008- so at every inspection the mechanic recorded the mileage on the car. Some years less than 50 miles were put on this car between inspections. THIS IS A TRUE 50477 MILE CAR! Ernie bought this car with 35554 miles on it with receipts back to 1989 showing the mileage at inspections and today it has 50477 on the working odometer. Ernie was a member of a local car club and he put 14923 miles on the car in 23 years. Since we purchased this car from Ernie, we changed the engine oil and filter, changed the transmission fluid to Redline MT-90 fluid, changed the spark plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap, changed air filter, PCV valve, gas filter and installed a new black shift knob that feels much better in your hand. The speedometer cable leaks a little and the engine leaks some oil. The driver’s seat shows a little wear at the seat belt corners and the windshield has two stone chips and some wiper scrapes. There is very little rust on this car. As stated, there are a few bubbles in the body work in front of the rear wheels- but that’s it. We went over the underside of the car with Eastwood rust encapsulator just to make sure the metal stays in good shape. We did find a few small floor patches- about 2” by 3” patches- one on each side of the foot wells. We have tried to describe this car as accurately as possible; we have tried to address all the cars good and bad features in this advertisement. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT this car is now 40 years old.
