Vehicle Detail
Up for auction today is my mom and dads 1978 MGB. They purchased this car used when we lived in a suburb of Chicago in 1980. It has been garage kept since then. They only drove it in the summertime until we moved here to Florida in 1987. My dad drove this car regularly until 2004. As his eyesight began to fail him he began driving less. It would be safe to say that this car has not been driven more than 100 miles since 2004. Earlier this year in March my dad suffered a massive stroke that has left him paralyzed on his entire left side. He will never drive again. We are selling this car to help pay for his rehabilitation. The car does run and drive. However I do not recommend driving this car any great distances due to the fact that it has been sitting for the last 8 years. That being said it does run and drive quite well. I started the car up and drove it to put some fresh gas in it and take the pictures of it. Engine runs well. Has a Webber carburetor. Has a small tick to it. The engine has sounded like this since they bought it in 1980. Transmission is a four speed manual. The clutch has been replaced since we owned it and it grabs great. Brakes work well and stop the car straight and quickly. Tires are over 20 years old. Surprisingly the Michelins are not dry rotted. Wheels are chrome knock-offs. Factory wheels with one big knock-off nut instead of individual lug nuts. Tops 2 are included 1 soft top and 1 hard top. Interior is average for the cars age. My dad replaced the carpet sometime in the 80’s. Gauges all work except for the gas gauge. Even the factory clock works! Body is original. There are a lot of scratches, dents and dings all over. The front doors have some corrosion. Keep in mind this is not a new car. This is 34 year old British car that has been sitting dormant for the last 8 years.
