Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 2001 Honda Prelude SH Below, I have described everything about the car to the best of my knowledge: Exterior: I would rate it at a 6 out of 10: The Electron Blue Pearl paint is in relatively good shape. There are a few cuts/scrapes/chips in the front bumper. There are very few stone chips in the hood, in fact, it is probably in the best shape of any panel on the car. The side panels and doors have a few scratches and small, typical door dings. The clear coat on the rear wing is starting to crack, but has not yet begun to peel. The rear bumper also has a few scratches/scrapes in the paint, but overall is in fairly good shape as well. There is no visible rust on the exterior of the car, and the underside of the body is fairly nice too, with most of the undercoating still intact. Interior: I would rate it at a 7 out of 10. The “leather” on the steering wheel and shifter is starting to show signs of age and wear. The driver and passenger seats both have what appears to be one cigarette burn mark in each of them, although neither I, nor the previous owner smoked in the car. The interior does not smell at all like it was ever smoked in either, and there were no ashes to be found when I cleaned it after purchasing it last year. All of the doors, windows, and moon roof seal tight with no leaks. The power door locks and windows operate flawlessly. The car does have an aftermarket radio in it, with a “hidden” cd player and remote control. Engine/Drivetrain: I would rate the engine at about an 8 out of 10. It has 118,000 original miles on it, so it does burn a little bit of oil (about 1.5 quarts per oil change), which I hear is typical of these engines, so I make sure to keep it topped off. The engine runs very strong and pulls very hard. It idles very smoothly and has never had any overheating issues. I am unsure about how old the timing belt is, as I have not replaced it, and the previous owner said that he had never replaced it either. So, it would probably be a good idea to have it and the water pump replaced soon. If the buyer is interested, I can provide the Honda OEM parts necessary at a discounted rate from what the dealer would charge. The transmission I would rate at about a 9 out of 10. It shifts very smoothly and the clutch seems to be in very good shape with plenty of life to it (again, I’m not sure if the clutch is original or not). The wheels are in relatively good shape as well. They have a few minor scratches in them, but the clear coat is in very good shape on all four. The tires appear to be pretty old, and are showing some signs of dry rot, however they hold air just fine. In fact, in the year and a half that I’ve owned the car, I don’t believe I have ever put air in them. I would say they have 30-40% tread left on them. Other mechanicals: The air conditioning and heat both work perfectly. The air blows ice cold and the heat cranks out hot air within minutes of starting the car – even in the winter. Performance Modifications: The car has a few bolt-on upgrades including the Greddy stainless steel exhaust and an AEM cold air intake. The previous owner (who was in his 40’s!) put both of these parts on the car, and did provide me with the original intake system as well, if the buyer cares to have it. Recent maintenance items: The previous owner had all of the shocks/struts replaced prior to my purchasing the car. They are Tokico OEM-replacement shocks, so I don’t think they had any performance gain over the originals. The car does ride on the original springs (it is not, nor has it ever been lowered). The previous owner informed me that he also had recently replaced the catalytic converter with a high-flow stainless aftermarket piece because the old one had rusted through. I did recently replace the passenger side axle seal because it had a slow leak. With the seal, came a transmission fluid flush/fill with brand new Honda OEM manual transmission fluid. The car does not leak any oil or coolant. Like I said earlier, the only thing that the car really needs is a timing belt/water pump replacement, as I’m not sure of its age. I have always changed the engine oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic and a fresh filter. I do have an extra oil filter as well, which the buyer is also entitled to. Overall, this car is in pretty good cosmetic and mechanical shape. I have done my best to describe the car in as much detail as possible. I have described its condition to the best of my knowledge. The car is for sale locally as well, so the seller does reserve the right to end the listing early in the event that it is sold locally. If you are interested in a test drive, please email me and we can try to work out a time and date. Good Luck Bidding! On Sep-04-12 at 19:59:49 PDT, seller added the following information: I had an interested bidder ask me about a few things. I thought I would share this information with the rest of you. If you would like to see more photos of these areas, please email me and I can send close-ups to you as well. As far as the particulars: chrome door handles function, but the chrome plating is starting to peel. The door inner garnish with window switches has what appears to be a paint or texture film that has worn off in some areas. The chrome plating on the inside of the rear view mirror is somehow peeling off as well. The leather on the steering wheel is cracked and torn in small areas. The engine undercover/splashield is still intact. I always let my engines warm up for at least 5 minutes during the winter, but I cannot speak for any of the previous 3 owners. There are no dash lights. ATTS functions properly. No CEL's either! I have 2 original keys and remotes. I ONLY USE MOBIL 1 FULL SYNTHETIC, but AGAIN, I cannot speak for any of the previous 3 owners. I also use the OEM filter. I only use 93 , even in my lawn mowers! The trunk does not leak. I have the OEM intake including the air box and all related tubing, but I do not have the original radio or exhaust. I did not know of the front bumper having ever been repainted. The previous owner claimed that he was in a very low speed rear end crash traveling at about 3 mph into the back of a truck, so the hood was damaged at the very front tip. He did not want any bondo on the hood, so he had a brand new OEM hood put on the car. Even the font grille was apparently not damaged. I do not know of any damage history prior to that. I do not know of any other parts on the car being repainted, but the right rear fender has a few swirl marks in it like maybe someone did some sanding on it at one time.
