Vehicle Detail

Am selling my 1998 BMW 528i "as is". Clean title. Car is driveable but is damaged. About 3 weeks ago, was hit (suburban ran a red light) in right rear passenger door and right rear quarter panel. While absolutely driveable and repairable, was "totalled" by insurance carrier due to age and cost to repair (estimates from $5k-$7k). In Tennessee vehicles over 10 years in age do not require a salvage title filed, hence the "clear" title reference.I do have repair estimate from USAA which you are welcome to review. Afraid don't know the value in this condition so am "taking it out for a spin"- please don't hesitate to contact me! That said, was offered $850 (Starting bid) for salvage value, but know well the "sum of the parts" is worth considerably more. This car is a one-family owner vehicle with relatively low miles of 126,500. Was purchased at BMW of Nashville, and has been serviced meticulously there and/or at Import Specialty of Nashville. So, my guess is that the value of the parts is of greater interest. The engine and (manual) transmission, et al are in pristine condition. PLUS - had a very minor fender bender in October, so she also has $2,500 in new parts on the front end - most notably: Right & Left Fog Lamps: $130.00 ea (260 total) Driver side Left side headlamp assembly: $463.04 Engine Co: $147.42 Pusher (Electric Fan): $388.34 Bumper Cover/Fascia: $468.57 Cooling Fan: $41.35 Fan Shroud: $78.98 Plus related moldings, covers, etc... New Rear Brake Rotors in October 2011: $194.24+ Water Pump: $125.49+ Drive Belt: $45.28 It also got a new Trunk Latch in April 2012: $177.23 Thanks so much, and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! On Aug-16-12 at 09:00:17 PDT, seller added the following information:*** SOME ADDITIONAL INFO ABOUT THE CAR'S DRIVEABILITY *** THANKS! THIS WAS MY ANSWER TO A QUESTION I RECEIVED ABOUT THE CAR - IS ALSO POSTED IN THE Q&A SECTION AT THE END OF THE LISTING. Heat and A/C work fantastically well. There is _nothing_ mechanically wrong with the car... That said, while "driveable", I was told "while the wheel isn't bent, there are aluminum arms (?) behind (?) it - that are bent. So sorry afraid I know almost zero about cars, so have no idea what I'm talking about but simply repeating what one guy told me. I have driven it about 15 miles (to/from a body shop for repair estimate). He said he "wouldn't drive 100mph on it...". I did travel for a few miles in the 45-50mph range, was smooth like always, but not really understanding the extent of damage it made me a hair uncomfortable. It does drive straight, but when making hard (right turns as memory serves) turns, the tire is definitely rubbing up against something a bit (can hear it, but I don't 'feel' it). Had a local prospective buyer take a look at the car on Tuesday - he took it for a drive and had his "guy" look at it as well. His "guy" felt for safety reasons, part of the body was a little closer to the fuel tank than he'd like to see. Suggested it needed to get on a hydraulic frame-puller (? again this is mostly from memory) to at least have it pulled a bit more away from the fuel tank. No puncture or damage to the fuel tank, but just to err on the side of caution. The prospective buyer did echo the "wow - it really drives great... is a real shame...". He's interested in buying it for his recent college-grad son who needs something to get around town for a bit. While he's prepared to put a little money in it, don't think he'll go the full restoral route. Thanks much, and hope that helps a bit, Emily
