Hello and thank you for looking. Here we have a 1988 Volkswagen Cabriolet in triple white (white paint, white top, white interior). This is one of the most iconic cars of the 1980s seen in lots of movies! Just driving it around will make you smile. I purchased this car to restore and am in the military and do not have the time or space. With an upcoming deployment, my wife wants it out of our garage. I purchased this car from a family that used it only for summer recreation. Here are things you will want to know: The Good The car was rust proofed when new (warranty sticker attached under hood and in door jam) and has no rust except a size of a quarter on the inside of the trunk lid. This is hard to find on this vehicle, and this one was kept indoors in winter since 1988.A lot of work as already been startedNew starterNew alternatorOil changeDistributor capRotorSpark PlugsSpark Plug WiresNew strut mounts and bushingsThere are no dings or dents anywhere at all- a totally straight, clean bodyMost of the seals are in good shape for the year, which is a good thing, they are hard to findCar has excellent glass, including the vent windows and rear convertible glass windowThis is a post-1987 model with the "Clipper" body kit and quad light front grille, which some people find very desirableThe Bad The car starts, runs and brakes, but has a rough idle once coming to temperature and stalls. I took it to a VW specialist and he told me it was a likely a clogged fuel filter or possibly an O2 sensor. It will need to be trailered or shipped to its new owner. The blower motor only works on fan mode, the AC does not workThere is no radioThe interior needs a cleaning and the drivers seat will need new upholsteryThere are a couple small trim pieces missing in the interiorThe paint looks good from ten feet away, but a fair to poor repaint was done at some point and it will eventually need to be repainted, although the current paint is passable for nowThe tires probably need replacing as they are olderThe convertible top needs to be replaced, it is badly torn in multiple places The odometer stopped working at 145k and change, but you can verify no odometer rollback via CarFaxThis car has a clean CarFax and I will email it to anyone who would like to see it. It starts, runs a bit and brakes, but it requires restoration work. It is not ready to be your daily driver until some of the above restoration needs are addressed. I took it for a 20 mile round trip on the highway this morning and it drives nice. There is some hesitation and rough idle when at idle, but once in motion, it drives nicely. To answer some questions you have sent me: The car is in Dayton, OH which is 50 minutes north of Cincinnati and 60 minutes south of ColumbusThe odometer stopped working at 145,876; I believe it has around 145,890 +/- a couple milesThe back seat and passenger seats are dirty, they need a deep cleaning; the driver seat has a tear in the bolster and needs patching or new upholstery.
